DS Trainer Alternative

Anyone used to wear the DS Trainer (before they made the new model) and know of a good alternative. I have the NB 902 in the mail and am waiting to try those, but I am open to any other suggestions. Thanks.

I didn’t think the NB 900 series is anywhere near as nice as the DS Trainer.

But be patient. Inside word has it that next years DS Trainer is going to be a lot more like last years model and not the new version.

I am going to try to find one more pair (will be my 4th) of last years model, to hold me over when my current pair is done and then get the new version in January or whenever it comes out.

I’ve been using DS Trainers for almost 10 years now and I hate the new ones. I tried the Saucony Tangent 2 per a suggestion in a previous post and love them. The are sized a little differently than the Asics, so I would find some place to try them on before buying.

Saucony Fastwitch2 Endurance is about 1/2 between the current DS trainer (I don’t like either) and the older model. Might want to try that.

That description sounds a lot like what the new DS Trainers are supposed to be.

Saucony Type A
.

Mizuno Elixirs (sp ???)
.

I bought 3 pairs of the 11. It will take me a while to go thru those. itried the 902s, and really didn’t care for them. Too gappy and slippy, too stiff…

At first i wasn’t too keen on the new DS trainers after owning a few pairs of the old model. But, the more i use them the more i like them…
I am actually liking the tighter forefoot. I find it keeps my foot in better position kinda. I don’t know how to best describe this, but its snug and there is no slipping that I find in the old one.

That description sounds a lot like what the new DS Trainers are supposed to be.

exactly!

You can’t replace DS Trainer.

Those were on my list when I was shopping for race shoes. The fit was allmost exactly the same to me.

I chose the DS Trainers cuz I liked the color better.

I actually think the forefront of the new DS is looser…the overall fit just isn’t as “snug” I guess, for lack of a better word. I love the Saucony Type A’s…not quite supple enough though for a training shoe. I will probably look into the other Saucony recommendations above as I like the Type A. I have looked all over the net for the old DS, but with a size 10 1/2 (probably one of the more common, if not the most common size) and haven’t been able to find jack. Glad to hear though that they are revamping the piece of junk they tried to pass off for a DS this year. Normally I love Asics, but they screwed up on this one.

I also race and tempo train in the type-As. If you run in them, liked the old DS trainers for training (didn’t last long though), you will likely like the Fastwitch2 Endurance as well as your new “training” shoe (although many also race in them as well).
