DS Trainer 14 users?

How is the sizing? is it same as 12 and 13 like half size off than other Asics? I use 9.5 Kayanos with 10 DS Trainer 13s. I wonder if the 14s are the same fit?

Just got some 14’s recently…I found them to fit more like the “older” DS Trainers…I had the older black/grey and red ones that I bought a couple pair of in size 10…last summer/fall I had to exchange my 13’s for 10.5 and now I’m back in a 10 in the DS Trainer 14.

Hope that helps!
Paul

Thanks!

RoadRunnerSports is pretty helpful in recommending what size to order. They recommend sizing one half size up for the 14’s and a full size for the 13’s. I think the 13’s ran exceptionally small, 14’s are back to the norm. I hear they are nice.

they’re definitely back to the comfy fit they were prior to the 13. I never felt right in my 13 (at the size I’d been getting in the DS Trainers for years) but the 14 feels great.

not a user yet, but have tried them on and done my usual fit checks vs my beloved DS-11’s. other than a noticeable width difference between the left and right shoe (shop getting another set in to see if it goes away…I’ve never noticed a size difference between my feet in any other shoe), I concur with the word on the street that it’s not only back to the old fit in general, but runs true to the old sizing too. definitely feels like a more substantial shoe than the -11, which I’m OK with. The only thing that gives me pause is the Solyte midsole. Both sets of Asics shoes I’ve had with Solyte since my DS-11’s (a pair each of 2130 and Empire II) gave me less than half the life I was used to from the previous Speva midsole versions. if I weren’t getting a good trade-in deal, I’d maybe hold out longer or look to something else.

I loved the 10s and 11s, and am worried this will be too MUCh shoe… when you say more substantial, where is it coming from? Is it any taller? One thing I liked about them was the low profile…

What do you do at Trek, BTW? I have a friend who is an engineer there…

The trusstic system seems beefier than in the 11-era shoes…if you look at this outsole shot (from Asics’ website) you’ll see there’s a cross-brace which wasn’t there on the older shoes.

Also, the midsole & outsole material seems a tad wider through the forefoot (and might be for the rear?)…with my -11’s on when I’m looking down at my feet I can’t see the edges of the mid/outsole at the widest point of the shoe, but on the -14’s I can. maybe not quite as much as on say a 2130/40, but it’s there and it wasn’t before. Those are the only outwardly obvious changes I noticed. I didn’t get the sense they were any taller.

I’m also in engineering.

Follow-up:

Shop got the 2nd set of -14’s in, tried them in a blind test vs the first set and compared both to my currently active set of -11’s in a few trips around the block. Established the following…
Part of the L-R disparity in toebox size was me, but the second set definitely was better than the first (had I re-reviewed JamieDPT’s excellent heads-up post before going in the first time I might’ve expected the general increase in toebox width and decided to go a half size down to deal with that roomy right shoe…kinda glad I didn’t) The ride is very similar to the -11, but Whereas the -11 seemed to be laterally supportive in the mid/forefoot via a generally tight sock-like fit, the -14 has a discrete cradle effect concentrated in the area of the blue-highlighted mid/forefoot “straps”. This is my first set of asymmetric laced shoes, so I’m guessing that’s part of the difference, but note in the pics below (from Asics’ website) how those straps are also asymmetric with respect to how they meet at the laces…the outboard set come in near the bottom-most lace holes, the inboard set halfway up. On the -11’s they both come in halfway up. The outboard straps also seem a bit beefier than the inboard straps. That’s based on their feel in my hands, not anything I noticed (yet) while running.

In the end I bought 'em. Today’s rainy conditions would’ve made a good day to check out that rice-husk no-slip outsole, but speedwork wasn’t on the agenda and I couldn’t bring myself to booger these up with salty snowmelt yet so I splashed around in my beater set of -11’s instead. Will post one more update when I’ve got some miles on these.
