Drug infested pros

Now we have http://www.procycling.com/news_main.asp?newsId=5032 (phillipe Gaumont) and of course the ongoing charges by Jesus Manzano on Velonews.com are quite disturbing. It’s one article after another on the widespread use of drugs by the pros. Stephan Roche has even been named in another article. Dietrich Thurau (German, early 80’s) has admitted to use on the 6 day circuit. 8 cyclist died last year of heart problems (all natural of course) The two above named individuals go into depth on how they use drugs and how easy it is to cover it up, and because of all this Kelme doesn’t get to do the tour. The UCI thinks 10% are using something and the other 90 are clean. I’d say it’s the other way around and I really like the quote that doping is the reason the peloton moves so fast. It just pisses me off cause this just becomes a game of catch up, where even the talented guys need to “do something” to keep up with the heavy users. I wonder what I’d do if this was my job, my family needs food and the only way to keep up is to enhance myself. As I sit here it would be easy to say “no” but if someone would come to my office and offer me a “shot” that would enable me to produce in my job (I’m a 100% commision investment/insurance guy) I’d probably take it. Just a thought, course it seems easy when you don’t see any negative side effects.

So does that mean that Gaumont’s World Champion’s rainbow jersey moves down to the silver medalist ?

I like how Kelme and others are trying to say this is all false. Manzano either did a whole lot of research in a short time to become that adept on the many drugs he refers to and their usage…or he is telling the truth. I believe the latter.

Look at some of the amatuer squads that have been involved in doping. How much more are the pros using?

I wish someone could prove me wrong, but I know that the new drugs and cover drugs come out a whole lot faster than the tests for these. In fact, until some of the new drugs are found and identified there can be no tests for them.

Much of what he spoke of didn’t even relate to testing, rather exploiting flaws in the procedures. ie, he was taking stuff that would ordinarily test positive, but by knowing how to time the system, or get the right prescriptions, the positie test is avoided.

Ever wonder why there were so many asthmatics in pro endurance sports?

True. But there are drugs out there that have not been discovered yet. This obviously goes beyond the Manznao affair.

Basically, my point is there will always be more incentive for those that are trying to cheat and find new ways to cheat or beat the testing system. wether this be finding flaws in the current system or finding new drugs/ways to cheat.

I don’t care how anybody attempts to justify it there is no excuse for doping. Doping is cheating in my book.
