I ran 60 minutes this morning with an average HR of 142 BPM at about a 9:30 pace on a pretty hilly course. When I stopped and started walking, I wanted to see what my heartrate was after 1 minute: it dropped to 112 BPM.
Anyone have an interpretation of what that means? Was I not running hard enough? What is the correlation/meaning between run fitness and recovery…how long it takes to hit your ‘recovery’ HR after a run?
That sounds about right to me. I think if you’re heart rate doesn’t drop that is when you should be alarmed or concerned. I would think that your ability to recover quickly is a sign of good fitness more than anything. I don’t think this indicates that you weren’t working hard enough. Of course I guess it depends on what you were trying to accomplish with your run.
Thanks. It was a very easy run where I wanted to keep my HR as low as possible and then see how low it dropped after I finished. At 2 minutes it was 109. At 3 minutes it was 99.
