Dropped 17min in my IM swim to sub 1hr: My Story

In my second IM last year (Florida) I swam 1:12, swimming was never a strong point for me so I was pleased with my time. I decided I would try to shave a couple minutes off my time for this year, unfortunately I crashed my bike in May.

The result was a broken collar bone, I had it plated and began recovery. I was finally cleared to swim by the end of July, this left me about 8 weeks to get in swim shape, still having pain I returned to Doc who diagnosed a torn rotator cuff, probably from initial impact of crash. I decided I would work through it rather than miss my upcoming IM. I managed about 12 swims prior to my IM, all ranged from 1.5k to 3k in length.

I swam a total of 12 times in a year and managed to swim a 00:55 IM. Clearly my work paid off, I swam faster than most AG’ers can ever dream. Even if some call the swim a joke, I swam faster than most AG’ers that didn’t do Chatt.

So this is my brag thread about how I swam a 00:55 Ironman swim, if you didn’t do Chatt then I PROBABLY SWAM FASTER THAN YOU!

Ok Flame away, but don’t forget I swam a 00:55!

How slow did you bike and run?

Flotsam was clocked at 49:20 for IM Chatt. So…

How slow did you bike and run?

Pretty darn slow!

What race did you do this at ?

Ok… so are you going to tell us the story? What type of workouts brought about this amazing improvement?

Isn’t the story that he did Chattanooga where everyone “shaved off” 15+ minutes from their swim time?

i am confused, so he did do chatt?

you are right. Sorry i should read slower and maybe race Chatt next year…

Either this is a joke or your just an A$$ Hat.

In case your an A$$ Hat at IM Chattanooga everyone swam under 1:00 even Slowman could swim under an hour at Chatanooga

He broke his collarbone on purpose to get extreme early vertical forearm range of motion. Duh.

I thought the average swimmer dropped 20 min off their swim. You’re still below average.

An empty bag of chips went under the cutoff…

For what it’s worth, I thought it was funny.

what do you mean EVEN Slowman? The guy is a STUD in teh pool!

You never mentioned if you drafted or not. An important fact when you’re discussing your swimming training and performances. Because if you sat on someones tail the whole 3.8km then that’s a massive chunk of time saved - 10+ minutes?

Relax, people. The dude was kidding. ST is a little bit behind today on the sense of humor front. A little bit behind on understanding sarcasm also.

Chattanooga was done under white water rafting conditions. I think the slowest swimmer of the day came out at 1:47

I did a 1:05 at chatt so take it easy!!!
