Executive Summary: In July, a driver hits a mountain biker on a road near a trail head. Initial report is alcohol, although toxicology came back clean. Prosecutor was still deciding on charges (even after a month?). Yesterday, the driver is killed by a hit/run driver. Talk about an odd turn of events. Many are saying Karma, but it appears that killing the biker was an accident. I know the road well. It’s near a couple mountain bike trail heads. It’s about a mile straight road with a steep hill and stop signs at both ends. Bikers are on that street all the time. Not sure what ever caused him to hit the biker.
Sad in both cases. I initally thought Karma as well, but this guy did stop when he hit the biker, but when he was hit the driver fled. I think whether the driver stops or runs is a huge indicator of guilt. It’s hard to buy the line when folks say they didn’t know they hit someone, or thought it was a dog, deer, etc. Yeah, right.
There was a preliminary hearing in Jan 2014 but since then absolutely nothing in the news. I’m guessing that the charges were dropped for lack of evidence. Not sure how you call it hit and run when she actually stopped.

CA law requires that you identify yourself to the other party, meaning you provide your name and current address. Meredith (allegedly) did not do that when she stopped.

I’m confused…how are you going to ID yourself to a dead person? Was the MTB killed, or not? Seems like the MTB was struck and police were called…Is this what happened?
I don’t doubt it, but the fact remains this fell out of the press after Jan 2014. Seems like if the prosecution had moved forward there would be a public record of it. Maybe someone from SanFran knows, but I’m guessing - and it’s a guess only - that it was dropped.

I agree. Though if the case were dropped I’d also expect there’d be a public record of it and Kessler herself would have tweeted it, etc, to clear her name with some finality.
