Just wondering what people do during their races (half to full) in terms of sports drinks.
Do you just follow the instructions or do you create a concentrate you sip with water from aid stations.

I bought a bag of maltodextrin and mix it in whatever quantity I need in a bike bottle. So far I’ve put 1000 cals in one bottle and it dissolves perfectly.
For a 1/2 IM, I’ll put about 700cals and just a little gatorade in a bottle. I’ll take a swig of the drink, then take a drink of water out of my aerodrink.
Drinking usually ruins my concentration during a race.
Oooops, you meant something else–my bad…
Brett
It is important to have the mixture correct if you mix your own and of course the concentration of malodextrin can be higher than a simple sugar. E-caps.com has some good articles on fueling and how your body consumes calories during races you may want to read if you haven’t already.
