Drills for Body Rotation in Swim

Help. no bilateral breathing due to hypoxia. I breath on my left side and I get good hip rotation ( therefore elbow height) because of my left side breathing. What suggestions does anyone have to help rotate to the non-breathing side. Are there any drills, tricks, ? I asked my wife to watch me swim, and see asked me are both sides to be the same?; because they’re not. Help

I’m no swim geek but if you simply can’t or won’t breath to the right, then fake it. Take a breath on your left, rotate over to your right side and give 4-5 good kicks and arm stroke, rotate back to center, kick and continue the rotation to your left. breath. Not ideal but shoud work.

One arm drills, high elbow on the off side.

25m One arm
25m other arm
25m catch up - breath on both sides
25m swim

Hypoxia? Really? You can’t slowly exhale underwater? I think you’re just stubborn.

One armed drills, high elbow, and your non functioning arm stays at your side. Make sure that you rotate so fully that your non functioning arm comes out of the water right before the pull.

Get a swim snorkel; Finis makes the best one. However, it is aerobically more difficult to breath through the snorkel. Do most of your swimming with it at a moderately easy pace and practice keeping your stroke symmetric.

This is a great one, I incorporate the above drill every January. Also, to build upon the above do this:

10x100 as…
25m kick on left side
25m kick on right side
50m kick 6 beats left, take 3 strokes, then kick 6 beats right

I like to use fins on this set, but they aren’t necessary. Also, to really mix it up, try keeping both arms at your side during the first 50. You really have to concentrate and tuck your chin into your shoulder and keep your body rotated on the side.
