I went for the Look KG 386i. Good geometry for me (72.5 degrees is little more slack seat tube than I’m used to, but I will adopt a little slacker position for a road racing frame). Yes it’s a road frame. It’s a pared down version of the KG 486, with the following description: “Its triangular top tube, diagonal downtube, and aerodynamically minded seat tube is noticeably less oversized than the 486. It’s built more for comfort for longer, endurance-oriented rides and races. The more minimalistic tubing gives it a less explosive power transfer, but an overall smoother ride.”
That’s pretty much exactly what I’m looking for. A few different reviews gave it high marks and confirmed the ride description. Getting the black-and-white version 'cuz it’s all that’s left. Pictures soon…
Outstanding purchase. The envy of all roadies. The “P3C” of road bikes that does exist. Bravo.
Personally, I’m in lust of a 486. My buddy is the Look rep and I still can’t afford one! ;o) urghhh. I found one in my size (here, btw), but the steerer was a lil short.
When are you getting it? You MUST post your review…
Should have it early next week. The weather here will be crap for another month at least, so I’m not in a hurry to build it up. (Putting a ton of miles on my fixie - I love 10% grade at 42x16 without getting out of the saddle. Probably churning over at about 20 rpm.) It’ll give me time to decide what parts to buy - the angel on my right shoulder says “Be reasonable and get the Chorus group” but the devil on my left shoulder says “Don’t be a pussy. Record. Zero Gravity. FSA.” I’m pretty sure I know who will win.
Honestly, it is pretty tough to tell the difference between Record and Chorus. I’ve got one Record group on my R2.5- the same group I had on my Look KX Lite.
I might buy a Chorus kit with compact Campag cranks for my new road bike.
I’ve got a compact setup on another bike that I use for climbing and crits. I was going to go with a standard 53/39 setup on this bike, as I’ll use it primarily for long road races and training rides.
Actually, I looked at the Chorus kit pretty closely. The only piece of the Record kit that’s considerably more money is the rear derailleur. Strange.
