Drafting and other swim Tricks

Breath on both sides, but not bilaterally: I go 10-20 on my right, then switch to 10-20 on my left. I throw in some bilateral (on the 3), and sight every 60 seconds or so. And I am finally learning to draft, which is great: Just wish I knew exactly who the swimmers are who are slightly faster than me.

Been watching the bilateral breathing thread, very interesting. Last week I had a great race in Muskoka Tri. But my swim was almost identical to last year. I think that the bilateral breathing may be holding me back. Anyways, while I was swimming, I tried to draft as much as I could, But couldn’t stay on anyone’s trail for more that a couple of strokes. And trying to follow bubbles are useless. Are there any tricks to help this, and for that matter in the water in general to become a more smart swimmer?

hahaha i love swimming in races for this reason. it’s been a bit but here are some tricks. need to slow the guy down a bit swim off his lower rib cage. can’t follow toes swim off his knees. coming to a tight turn, nothing a push on his hips won’t fix, you turn tighter he turns wider. leading the line, duck under and stop about 3 ft under water, let the guy behind swim over then pop back up on his feet (my favorite trick). I’m sure there are more but it’s been a long time since i’ve been in the water.
