Dr Tommy and Rappstar at ITU Pan AM Cup Olympic Tri Kelowna

Dr Tommy and Rappstar are veritable tri gods on this forum, but when it comes down to short course racing, just take a look at how fast some of these kids went today. Tichler popped off a 31 min 10K today. Looks like Tommy came off the bike with the leaders, so the ramp for Kona is looking nice for a guy that just started training a few weeks ago!

Dev, what are you trying to do with that post? The ITU race was a lot of fun. I started next to Dr. Tommy and got an express train pull for the first 50m or so. Then he was off into that world known as the “front pack.” Great swim by Slowtwitcher (and my training buddy) Dano Wells (REDSTORM). The race was pretty much a non-drafting affair for me, as I did my best to catch the front group. I ended up about even splitting the front group (lost 20"), which isn’t too bad. I was a bit bummed cause it was rainy, so I wanted to make sure I kept my wheels right side down, and was a bit cautious on the corners; this course would be quite a bit faster when it’s dry. It is an awesome bike course for anyone who wants to come and do the race - same bike course for AG’ers and Elites. Great pavement, a stiff hill, and lots of fun corners. Not being the most explosive rider, I would have like to carry a bit more momentum into the corners, but it was still a lot of fun to chase. Thanks to my boys Colin Jenkins who loaned me his 808 clinchers and to Simon Whitfield who loaned me his bike and ITU skinsuit (no pockets needed for this stuff!). A top-20 finish and a whole lot of fun was my end result.

I was trying to point out how well you guys did at the game of the dragsters…while at the same point, posting how fast these guys are actually going! Congrats man… and to even split the front group riding solo was pretty fantastic…and iyou put down a 35 minute after that solo effort was too!

Edit: Maybe the historians can jump in here, but is this tri on the same course as when they had the “World Championships” in 1988, when Glen Cook, Rick Wells, ken Glah, Mike Pigg and Mark Allen were duking it out in Kelowna? This was the year before the ITU was formed and the first “official world’s” were in Avignon (won by Mark Allen as a warmup to taking out Dave Scott that fall in Kona…)

Dude, I saw you out there this weekend! I saw the Whitfield skinsuit and thought to myself “That’s not Simon…” and couldn’t think of anyone else with that name…hmmm. Now I know! Anyways, it was great watching you all race - very inspiring and motivating. Great job on a great ride and a very solid run! I think I got some more training to do!!
