I recently switched from a road bike with an Ultegra triple to a Dual with the standard double, problem is that the gearing is too much for my preferred riding cadence. I used to ride middle ring, middle three on the rear for most rides and maintain a good high cadence. Now to find that sweet spot, the chain is torqued from the outside chainring to the 2nd and third spot in the rear - noisy and excessive wear on the drivetrain. I’m thinking of switching the outer to a 48 or 50. Anyone try this approach or know of any reason why I shouldn’t?
My outside chainring is a 48 and I love it. I figure Lance is more than 10% studlier than me, so there is no reason why my big ring should be any greater than 48. It gives me way more usable gears and once I get up to 55-60 kph I just coast as the incremental work has little value compared to the incremental rest (at least in tris).
I’ve heard the 48 is the way to go. Thanks for the info.

A couple questions:
- what size cassette do you use with the 48T?
- what size wheels (650, 700)?
Thanks,
