Downhill Ski World Championships

So, slighly off the tri topic, but not too far off. A few years back, one of my tri training buddies - Jay Lapierre – showed me pictures of one of the kids he coaches. John Kucera was a hot ski racer, just getting to the national team level. The picture he showed was John doing leg squats with some ridiculous weight (think 5 x 45’s on each side). Jay talked about how impressed this kid’s work ethic and how that was going to make him the next star.

A lot of time has passed since then. Tragically, Jay Lapierre was killed by a car while out on a training ride in 2006. Anytime I watch the world cup races on TV it reminds me of how proud Jay was of his coachlings and how much passion he put into the sport.

So, back to the story. John Kucera won the DH World Championships in Val D’Isere on Saturday. I have to say that all of Jay’s training buddies are totally pumped up about this and we’re pretty proud of the kid - kept working his ass off and pulled together a great run. Nice work John. Nice work Jay.

Yea, I watched that on TV. I love the DH…made for TV.

Good for your friend, even if he is gone…Thats part is sad.
