Very sad to hear that. I met Doug for one hour at a swim seminar in NY a couple of years’ ago and he was as helpful and enthusiastic in person as he always has been on here.
i never met him in person, but i did on occasion discuss the finer points of swimming with him on this forum. he was smart, he was feisty, he was funny. i am very, very sorry to hear of his death. my sympathy to you and his family.
his death is also a sobering call to all of us, that you can do nearly everything in your life “right”, and yet you can still be felled by a 1,000 different things. no one is immune …
I am very sorry to hear about your father. I have very fond memories of my time as a student of his and have his voice in my head each time I swim. Because of him, people stare at me as I walk down the street “playing with the water” as he taught me. This is a very good thing and I’m lucky to have known him.
I know that the world has lost a great man today and wish your family all of my love.
