Doug Stern, Focusing on swimming during my taper?

Is the 3 weeks during my taper a good time to focus on my swimming? I figure I’ll cut way back on my biking and swimming which should give me quite a bit of time to focus on swimming. I usually don’t see the same fatigue from swimming as I do from biking and running. Do you think this is a good idea? Anything I should be concerned about?

Your three week taper is a time to rest and repair your body. It is also a time to review technique. As you are sharpening your body for the race you are also honing your skills which will make you more efficient. It is all about fine tuning. A rested body is more receptive and sensitive to stroke correction. When you are fatigued your brain is dulled by the constant repetition. Rest between repeats, go back to your favorite drills, get videotaped and critically evaluate your stroke. Continue to stretch your ankles and shoulders.

Have a great race.
