Anybody tried one of these? Any thoughts on the distances, i.e. how smart to put yourself through this, training plans, etc???
If you’re crazy enough to have done this, please tell us how it was.
cheers

Never tried one but am seriously considering a double for next fall. There’s a woman that hangs out on some of the tri message boards named Eileen…she’s done some double and triples and last fall she did the Deca (10x)!!
I’ve always wondered about training plans. Check out http://www.usaultratri.com/reports.html which has race reports from some athletes…in these reports some of them mention their training. I read a report from a guy that did a double ironman on 13 hours of training a week. Pretty impressive!
Wow…the laps sound really intimidating…43 laps for the swim, 67 for the bike, not sure how many for the run…I would think that would be more mentally challenging than the distances. Is this the double you are thinking of doing? I don’t know of any others.

Eileen’s website is http://eileensteil.com/
Send her an email and I am sure she will respond when she gets a chance. If you are up in the air, she will talk you into it.
DO NOT LET HER NEAR YOUR CYCLING GLOVES!
I did a bit of looking into these. I think I will limit my ultas to a single sport. Planning a 50 mile ultra this fall. Did a 50K in Dec. and really enjoyed the challenge.
There is no reason to significantly alter your current training volume if:
you already have several years of endurance sport training experience,
you train for full IM distance recent/current season,
can splurge your weekends (days and some night hours) to do ultra-specific sessions,
have enough motivation to train for such, to work out race logistics, to recruit your support crew, and to actually race through many low moments during the event.
My old site (www.enduranceworld.org) was dedicated primarily to ultra distance racing, and has fair amount of advice. PM me if you are serious, I coached people to the finish line in doubles and done double/triple events.
Yep, that’s the one. I know of one in Canada in July I think and there are some double/triple type events in Europe too. Learning of these races is so intriguing.

Irongeek…
emailed it to you…because you are probably the only one interested.
Or if you wanted a longer explanation…
sorry dude…it is what it is
.
Actually, that was one of your shorter posts.
I know…and its even shorter now Just for you.
You didn’t have to do that for me. I’m sure others might find it interesting. As they say, if you don’t like it…
