So the doorbell rings and the window on the door is open - they see me, shit. I go answer the door and in 20 degree snow is some guy and a woman with some sort of badges with their photos on their coats…wondering why detectives are at the door I answer.
Well, they are from some hippie treehugger cause and want to teach me all about new lightbulbs (I wonder if my neighbor turned me in). They asked me if I knew about CFL bulbs and light timers for outdoor lamps - “to save (me) money on my electric bill and save the earth”. Never really thought about it…my answer…out of 60+ total bulbs in the house, only the ones in the storage room are flourcent, and those are 8’ long tubes.
Now, my electric bill is more than affordable for me. I dont give a shit what the bill is. Add to that the power I get if from a Nuke plant…who do these idiots think they are saving? I mean for fucks sake…door to door in the snow to educate people on lightbulbs???
Record10, the earth has only been around for 4.55 billion years (plus or minus about 1%) and has survived just fine, your going to undo 4.55 billion years if you don’t change all your lights tomorrow.
I know some old codgers that are actively stockpiling 100 watt lightbulbs, which are apparently going to be phased out in a few years. Let me know if you want their contact info.

I dunno if this is scare propaganda or if one of these things breaks are we gonna get a nice dose of mercury. Either way if the wife is going to have a kid I’m thinking of pulling these things out just to be on the safe side. Also seems to be a nightmare to dispose of these things.

once again, they dont let the facts get in the way. The fact is that if I do, or do not have my lights on - the powerplant will have the exact same environmental output. I dont get my power from coal or any other carbon source…so what are they trying to save here?
In science class our teacher opened a vial of mercury and poured some on each of our desks so we could play with it. Something about surface tension, or some such thing. I just remember it was cool. If that were to happen today the teacher would be fired, we would all sue the district for medical monitoring and the school would be shut down for at least a week while the hazmat team scoured the place and destroyed the furniture.
You should have told them that you were wasting more energy letting your heat go out the front door than you would save with the lightbulbs. Then ask them why they hate the Earth, and why they’re going door to door making people waste heating energy.

Do you have the only nuclear power plant not attached to the grid? Cause the only way what you say is true is if that is the case. As you say, don’t let the facts get in the way.
Unless you are in France or some isloated grid in the USA its impossible for “your” power to only come from a nuclear plant, and unless your nuke plant is in france or a secret breeder reactor in the USA, it is having a bit of environmental impact.
