Really and truly - the only reason I don’t have one of those “cop-style” pushbars on the front of my car is because I’d use it. A lot. And probably not get sent to the kind of Martha Stewart country club jail that would allow me internet access.
Why do so many big SUV’s have those Cow-Catcher things on the front? In case a buffalo strays onto Robson or Yonge streets. I guess you never know!! I have always thought them to be the most ridiculous accessory on an already absurd vehicle.
As for the parking - further evidence in the decline of basic skills( in this case parking - how hard can it be??), common-sense and civility in our society.
same reason I have zero gravity brakes on my time trial bike
stupidity
=)

I can’t explain most of the pretty-boy SUV’s that never see dirt or even gravel parking lots, but if I had one it would be used to push assholes out of my way! Hence the reason why I don’t have one…
I think that the ones that come as factory options on the luxury SUV’s would crumple and fold if they ever made contact with anything harder than a human body @ 5mph anyway…
i drive a rather small car, that I can squeeze into spaces even when people do that
of course I have to slam my door into their fender to get out of my car.
doesn’t really affect my door.
The problem with this (aside from somewhat unnecessary vandalism) is that if they get back to their car before you get back to yours, and if they happen to notice the damage, they are in a position to do far worse to your car.

The only time that I saw these things to actually be useful and practical was on the safari vehicles used in Kenya when out in the bush or on the savannah - here there actually was a good chance that you may make contact with an animal at speed. In fact, we nearly did one morning when a wildebeest, actually took a run at the front end of our jeep!!
What I am doing is not vandalism, it is parking, doing the best I can to get out of my car.
Also, I snap a cell phone picture of the situation every time I get out, with their license plate.
serious, lol
llol

Fleck: those are brush guards. They protect against…well…brush. What you want is a bull bar… tube steel bolted right to the frame. That will get the job done.
I did know a guy back in HS with a POS truck. As the bumpers fell off, he mounted a piece of railroad tie to the frame in their place. It was perfect for ‘nudging’ stuff out of the way…and you could never tell if he hit anything because it was a hunk of beat up, old wood.
I can’t believe that a rockcrawler hasn’t responded yet, so I feel obligated:) I’ve got a Jeep TJ Wrangler that I wheel/crawl with. It is still street legal here in AL, but not all 50 states. I still consider it a mild build. Anyways, I love to snug up against people parking like that while in my Heep. It has very little sheet metal left that can be damaged and is mostly surrounded by steel tubing (rock sliders, stinger bumper, etc). So, if you opened a door against it, you would be hitting against something designed to hold the weight of the Jeep against rocks!
Plus, if it’s a small car, I can just park on top of it.

Any fellow rednecks around here?? Ha!
I like and approve of this option.
When I moved to Sedona I had a Caddy and traded it in on a Jeep Cherokee. While I was shopping I was very surprised to find that 90% of the SUV’s on the road are NOT 4x4. I had to search for a Jeep Cherokee with 4 wheel drive. Most of the big SUV’s are not 4x4…what a waste!!
I miss my CJ. Even if they missed the sliders and hit sheet metal… who cared?! Soon after I first got it, some dude wasnt looking cut me off in traffic, his trunk was right under my tube bumper. I couldnt hit the brakes, if i had and the front end dove a little, his car would have been jacked pretty good.

You know the ST rules…pics or it doesn’t exist!
I miss my '47 CJ 2A. I’m going to build a full custom frame beast once the economy turns a bit
