Don't try this at home

(from cyclingnews.com’s coverage of today’s TdF stage)

15:59 CEST 133km/55.5km to go
The lead is increasing to over 7 minutes. With only 55 kilometres left it does look like a bunch sprint becomes more and more unlikely. Jens Voigt gets a saddle change on the fly. It really is amazing how the mechanics change things while hanging out the window at 40 or 50 km/h.

Impressive, but why?

Does he have a breakaway saddle vs. a riding in the pack saddle?

The ultimate would be a front wheel change, holding a wheelie at 50kph and swap out a wheel!

Impressive, but why?
Stuff breaks?

Hmmm…gues you’re probably right. Usually they just seem to comment when it’s some sort of mechanical failure. I guess the way I read it just made it sound like it was a preference things vs. a necessity thing.
