I’m just blatantly complaining here: 2 weeks with a deep cough, and it still isn’t gone. Approaching 9 days without cycling or running, and I swam Saturday for exactly 7 minutes and 32 seconds before I nearly drowned. Several times I’ve coughed so hard that I almost puked.
Just **wishing everybody else better luck staying well than me **this season. I rarely get sick, but when I do…it’s a doozy.
In fact, the only working out I’ve done in the last week has been (gasp!) lifting weights.
But obviously that’s not exercise, because I barely even breathed hard
I got the flu about 4 weeks ago. Was out for one week being sick and another week recovering. Definitely hurt my fitness and muscles, but this is my 3rd week back and it feels close to normal.
Vitamin C drops and various heavy antioxidant drinks. Love it. Tasty and possibly helpful. Could be psychosomatic, but I don’t really care. Can’t hurt I suppose. Go check out a doctor if you haven’t already. Try and get that cleared up.

Oh harden up princess! You got sick and it hasn’t even lingered that long.
I got sick back in late July and had a month off training. Then for the next 2 months I could barely manage my 1/2 hour cycle commute to work each day. I introduced swimming but would cough and snort any time went over about 60% efforts. Next I put my back out. It was a reiteration of a broken back from 27 years ago. I’ve been in agony, at times walking only with considerable pain and pronounced limp. It’s 11 months since I ran, rode more than a 13km cycle commute and I’ve been on and off swimming for the last year as well. 2 weeks ago I had shoulder surgery so can’t see getting back to training until the new year.
I’m waiting to be kicked off ST for no longer being a tri or any other kind of athlete
I have wet dreams of having only a 2 week break!
Last week I went to my doctor yet again, and had back X-Rays and blood tests. Last night he called me and wants me to come back in to “discuss my blood results”. He wouldn’t elaborate over the phone, but I suspect it’s yet another nail in my coffin. FARK!!! TriSpouse has stopped nocturnal activities as she hates hurting me and my back. Besides, I huff and puff like I’ve just finished an IM if I try to be anything more than a “one minute wonder”
I’m sorry to not be giving you the sympathy to are looking for, or probably deserve, but it’s kinda hard when your problems look so appealing compared to mine. I hope we both get better soon.
Hey, not looking for sympathy either. I don’t deserve any – and frankly, I need the break whether I want it or not. No races coming up, no training camps…nothing. But I missed some of the East Tennessee fall colors, which only happen once a year. Races are a dime a dozen, give or take 50 bucks.
I just don’t like being sick and I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. All I have is ST! Can’t a brother spread some well wishes without taking a hit?
And btw, I’m halfway through a course of antibiotics. I think I’ll live. For everybody else, the best defense is a good offense. I hear elderberry works – wish I’d known about that 3 weeks ago!
glad you have a balanced view of your illness. I gave up my balanced view 6 months ago. I’m so over being a couch bound sloth! It’s killing me.
ST IS good for a whinge when need be. On that point we can agree.
In my case, I’m pretty sure my ongoing health issues are caused by “impure thougths”. I’m full of them, all the time, and I think they just make you unwell in the long term. I wish I knew the antidote for them
I feel your pain. Four weeks of chest congestion and dry cough, two rounds of antibiotics and I still am not up to par. Change of seasons, bad luck, whatever, but it sucks.
I was having a good day in terms of no “impure thoughts” until I read a post about taking a look at the cameltoe in the Xterra ad.
OK, so I’m old, and my wife is a couple of years older than me. We were at dinnner a few weeks ago, and one of the other guests mentioned “camel toe” and the men all cracked up. The women looked stunned. (all conservative women in their '50’s and 60’s). Well, one of the other guests, a really funny guy, and is a flaming homo (his words). He lept up from the table, and ran to his car to get his laptop. He ran back into the room with “The Camel Toe Song” blaring away! Damn it was funny. It’s sung to the Beach Boys Cocomo Grove or whatever it’s called. When he turned the laptop around and the women finally got to find out what a Camel Toe is, you could hear a pin drop…followed by nervous laughter and shouts of “That’s DISGUSTING!!!”
The men were roaring with laughter, and it got louder as one by one, the women all looked down at themselves to see if they were sporting camel toes! LMFAO I had tears streaming from my eyes, I was laughing so hard.
Not much funny sh*t happens after you turn 50, but that night was a night to remember, for sure!
I hear ya. Don’t want to worry you, but since Sept I’ve had flu (A & B), pneumonia, a respiratory infection and still not better. Over two months and I am not back to any cardio at all yet.
