Maybe, but he got the oath right. He’s got that going for him, which is nice.
That’s the kind of compliment you give to a kid with autism.

Obama muffs the oath! Not a good sign -even Bush did that well
I think Roberts was the nervous one, his meter on the quote was not what Obama was expecting. Interesting that Obama went mostly with a speech that is sobering rather than inspirational. He did a good job of describing much of what the “idea” of America is.
He is saying, IMO, waaaaaay too much in regards to what we can and will do. I cannot tell which aspects are “ear tickling” and which aspects we are actually going to try to accomplish. But, the amount of diversity of tasks we are going to accomplish is just hard to absorb.
I am excited about his potential and his charisma, but I’m worn out on the speeches. I appreciate his call to put aside our “childish things”, but I also think that listing anything and everything as “things we’re going to change” is also being very childish in thinking, or at least treating the audience as childish listeners who don’t know any better. It’s almost like an adult that lists 20 major lifestyle changes as “New Years Resolutions”. It sounds great, but …
These ceremonies remind me of a high school graduation. That said, I think he made plain that we, as citizens, have won the lottery. He did not mention America as the land of opportunity, rather as a step beyond that, as a place where we already have, and now will look outward to share our fullness with so many more around the world. Is it just a speech, or reality, who knows.

I think Roberts screwed up the first line, but either way that was awkward to say the least.
Yeh, as it turns out, Roberts messed it up - but it all cam together at the end.

Yep. Roberts got it wrong. He said, “that I will execute the office of President of the United States faithfully.” It’s actually, “that I will faithfully execute the office . . .” Obama’s pause was in reaction to Roberts’ mistake, and got it back on track.
The Chief Justice decided to go without notes and that is what threw it off.
**Obama muffs the oath! Not a good sign -even Bush did that well **
Yeah, but did you see Chief Justice Roberts pounce on his mistake, and repeat a jumbled version of the oath for him to repeat?
Gotcha jurisprudence…
This was pure brilliance on the part of Roberts. made the Big O look goofy on his big shining moment. Perhaps a little payback when Senator Big O did not support Justice Roberts as a Supreme Court nominee. Hey Big O — Paybacks a beotch!
A friend emailed me a copy of Obama’s speech. In it were the words:
“Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath.”
Anyone know if the above quote from the speech was indeed made by Obama today? Grover Cleveland was president twice, so only 43 have now taken it. Shouldn’t a proof reader have picked that up beforehand?
you’re funny
.
His exact words were: “the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their (sic) job.” I suppose that if all of us cut our hours, we could have a booming economy, like the French. Jeez.
Couple that with a minimum price on oil, a 20$ an hour minimum wage and national health care and Poof! Problem solved…Maybe I should put that in pink…I’m certain many here might think those are actually good ideas.

mmm…I think you’re missing his point.
Not missing it, just disagreeing with it, on both economic and ethical grounds.

You are correct: Obama did say that, and only 43 people have taken the oath. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/20/us/politics/20text-obama.html?pagewanted=all
Let the impeachment begin.
The speech was given after Obama took the oath, so wouldn’t he have needed to include himself in that count?

He is the 44th President, but only the 43rd distinct person to be President. As BigBloke pointed out, Cleveland was both the 22nd and 24th President.
Got it.
