Dominion lawsuit filing spills the tea on Fox News

Settled.

What a bunch of weasels.

“We are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute with Dominion Voting Systems. We acknowledge the court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false. This settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards. We are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues.”

Right after a jury was selected and special master was named, Fox settled.

Dominion says the settlement was for $787, 500,000.

Fear is a powerful force, I wonder what we will see this evening or the coming days on chucklehead hours of Fox primetime.

If this is all they are going to have to admit then Dominion laid down. And how does a settlement where you are found to have lied continue the commitment to the highest journalistic standards. Admitting the courts rulings about false statements shows you have no journalistic standards.

True they are weasels and audience about the same level. $787.5 mill not enough to deter future hypocrisy.

Yeah, I was hoping for at least the symbolically important $1B, if not the full requested $1.6B.

Not an insignificant sum for an organization with ~$23B in assets, but also not draconian.

That is a lot of cake.

Not nearly enough.

Alex Jones’s verdict was $965M. The consequences of those lies where far less significant than the ones the asshats from Fox spread about the election.

IANAL, but I suspect there is more to come wrt what the settlement requires Fox to say.

I’d guess that they’re waiting to find out exactly what the settlement requires them to say about it.

I agree, seems odd they would settle for less than half when everything appeared to be in their favor. As someone else said, I wouldn’t have settled for less than $1B and 1 dollars.

Smartmatic will be hitting Fox in the same place the Dominion did.

Smartmatic’s lawsuit against Fox News has attracted only a fraction of the attention garnered by the legal action of Dominion Voting Systems. Yet both firms are suing Fox for defamation related to its coverage of Donald Trump’s stolen-election lie, and both pose a serious threat to Fox’s finances and reputation.
In fact, on paper Smartmatic’s suit appears to be the more dangerous. It’s demanding damages of $2.7bn, compared with Dominion’s $1.6bn.

It doesn’t look like they had to admit much wrong doing;

'Fox News also hailed the compromise while also admitting that it broadcast falsehoods:
“We are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute with Dominion Voting Systems. We acknowledge the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false. This settlement reflects FOX’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards. I can’t believe they settled, why?!!

I remember fox news “breaking” news stories with no details in the past. The settlement itself is news “with more information to come” - it is the front story on bbc, nbc, cnn, OAN news, etc.

They settled to avoid their Tv hosts having to admit in court what they said privately in emails and texts, which is that they didn’t believe there was any evidence of election fraud.

Seeing the likes of Hannity, Ingraham, Carlson and Bartiromo live on screen admitting they are full of shit, would potentially damage the network significantly, and even then they could lose the case and have to pay even more than $1.6bn.

Seeing them on TV admit to their lies would persuade A LOT more of their audience that they are being duped, than the stories that have appeared in the media. It’s the same reason the Jan 6 commission held live hearings in prime time.

It’s a shame, because I really wanted those weasels to have to take the stand and squirm, but hopefully Smartmatic will make them do so.

I can’t believe they settled, why?!!

Probably financial math. Would you take 100% chance of ~$750M now vs. say 80% chance of some indeterminate amount <= $1.6B at some indeterminate date in the future after spending an additional X $M in legal costs.

They settled to avoid their Tv hosts having to admit in court

I think he’s asking why Dominion settled.

an additional X $M in legal costs.

The legal costs in suits like this are negligible.
