Doing time blocks on the treadmill?

So like most here, I think the treadmill sucks. But after work tonight, I am headed straight to the treadmill in the morning, as the weather is not willing to cooperate in the least for a distance run where I am. TO THE POINT…if boredom occurs on the treadmill, can you get just as good an aerobic workout if I did 5 x 30 minute blocks of time, with say, core work in between each block as a “mental break”, as you would get in doing a straight (boring) 2.5hr run???

Do others break up their long workouts on the treadmill? I’d be interested in hearing.

The last time I did a long run on the treadmill, I had a bit of a workout to do in it and that helped “break it up.” I had 3 mi w/u, 3 x 3 mi @ just above marathon pace, marathon pace, just below, 1 min between each, then 1 mi easy/1 mi 10k pace/1 mi easy, or something to that effect. I made a sticky note for each part and peeled them off as I went.

Find a way to make a “workout” in it and entertain yourself!
