Holy cow! Doesn’t he have a Press Secretary and any number of subordinates to announce things and explain administration policy? I think he needs to get off the TV for awhile. I understand the desire for transparency, but that doesn’t mean the number 1 guy has to make every announcement or get on TV every day. At some point, you have to stay off the air or people will just tune you out.
Like him or hate him he’s good at being in front of people. The second he quits doing that his rating will plunge. He knows that and that’s why he’s on TV everyday.

actually he has formally launched his 2012 re election campaign - but can now do it on the country’s nickel.
A definite contrast to his predecessor. I think Clinton was out talking a lot, too. I like to know what my President is thinking.
when he’s off picking cotton all Summer, then you’ll miss him.

I agree…that guy has got to sit down in his office, do some work, and stay off the TV. It’s getting old.
You do when you are more interested in being a rockstar than you are being president.
"I like to know what my President is thinking. "
I do too, but that’s what the White House Communications staff is for. I don’t remember Pres Clinton being on TV anywhere near this much.
I don’t expect him to maintain this pace for very long. Overexposure will only hurt what he’s trying to accomplish with his recent media blitz. That said, given the depth and breadth of issues he’s facing, and how he’s successfully used media in the past, I completely understand why he feels it necessary. The online town hall forum yesterday was an innovative approach to a time-honored tradition, and today’s press conference on Afghanistan demanded nothing less than his presence and delivery.
We’ve seen administrations that were stand-offish, unaccessable, unaccountable, and out of touch. I welcome the change.
When we see him guest hosting Dancing With The Stars, or wearing a fat suit on Tyra, I’ll probably join the chorus of detractors. He needs to strike the right balance here; I think we’ll see a pull-back following the conclusion of the budget battle.
Matt’s right, keeping the ratings up…
no wait, Lorenzo’s right, you’re just upset because you are a racist…
no wait, why are you noticing or commenting at all? It’s his first hundred days! Give the man a chance.
You’re really something. Someone affords you a redo, a chance to offer substance on a subject that seems to interest you, and all you can do is hurl the same tired accusation.
Was he trying to be a rock star today as well, laying out his plan for Afghanistan?
Needy troll.
His multi appearances on the tube is a visual pacifier for the weak.
that’s what the White House Communications staff is for.
Have you listened to Robert Gibbs lately? He’s no Tony Snow.
Well, he got off air for about 20mins, and now he’s back on for another ceremony.
Is the Rockstar Obama tour coming to Afghanistan? If so how many shows? Who is opening up? I got ticketmaster on speed dial…
Is it unusual for a president to formally introduce the AG?
I wonder if it isn’t more an effect of an increasingly ever-present media than anything.
“Is it unusual for a president to formally introduce the AG?”
Well, he’s not really new, he’s just being formally installed, right? He’s been in the job for awhile. But no, it’s not unusual, I’m just trying to figure out why they aren’t scheduling this stuff a little better so he doesn’t go on air for an important announcement, then go off air for 15 mins, then come back on air for another important on air news event. Just seems like poor time/news/message management.
I think it’s easy to lose perspective, for those of us with jobs that allow access to cable news networks at any given time. The media - notoriously self-unaware - has been asking the same question about overexposure, but they seem to make the assumption that if they’re covering it, everyone must be watching it. A very small percentage of people, I suspect, watched the president jump from his Afghanistan briefing to Holder’s installation. Most who tuned in probably heard or watched the former event on a major network or radio program, and knew nothing of the AG intro.
I knew he was on Leno, but didn’t watch it. I heard he was on ESPN last week, didn’t watch it. I read of yesterday’s town hall meeting, didn’t watch that either. I heard he attended the Medal of Honor Day ceremony, but saw no footage. I did watch today’s briefing on Afghanistan; I suspect most people caught only one (if any) of those events. So I’m not sure I’m buying into the media-induced overexposure charges quite yet.
It helps us liberals cum quicker when we jerk off to him. We can’t watch the same speech over and over, its like an old porno tape.
Like him or hate him he’s good at being in front of people. The second he quits doing that his rating will plunge. He knows that and that’s why he’s on TV everyday.
He’s the first President to come of age in the modern Media age. Every one of his predecessors was too old to really get or understand the power of the modern Media. It’s politics and it’s policy but it’s also entertainment - too really reach people, you need to entertain them.
