Does stinger front and rear compatible with Cervelo P4

Can’t seem to find a definitive answer on this. Like to hear from someone who has seen it done.

Looking at purchasing a Stinger 9 tubular front for P4. Why not 1080? It looks like the Stinger 9 is lighter, cheaper and, if HED website is to be believed, performs better than a 1080. Plus it should be easier to ride in cross winds.

So does the Stinger 9 work up front? Will a stringer disc work in the rear? How about a stinger 9?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I haven’t “seen it done,” but I can’t imagine any reason that a Stinger 9 wouldn’t work just fine as a front wheel. As a rear, I believe the P4 was designed with the intent that it would be used with a flat disc. Wheels with bulges near the rim track present a problem with some aspect of the rear brake. That’s just what I’ve heard/read here on ST.

You should be able to do some searching of the forum using P4 and come up with some more information. I have no first-hand experience with the P4. I’ve only read about it.

Yes

Thanks. I have searched the forum and the Cervelo forum and several people asking the same question but could not find anyone with a definitive answer that they have done it and no issue.

the only reason there is a wheel “limiter” w/ the P4 frame is due to the internal rear brake not opening wide enuff to accomodate certain wheels.
(I think the pinched-in chainstays are also a factor for stuff like the Sub-9 and Jet disks.)

You can run any front wheel you want.

Cervelo website has a listing of all rear wheels they feel are NOT suitable for use w/ the P4.

PS - why tubbies? Clinchers are faster.

The sub 9 rubs the chainstays on a P3 under heavy load, and although I did not try it, I imagine its the same on a P4

It may be possible to trim down the brake pads to accomodate wider rims, such as the new super 9 disc

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a ton for the picture. Feel better now about pulling the trigger on a stinger 9.

The wheels that Cervelo indicates won’t work is very incomplete. They mention stinger 6 but not 9. They are also really don’t indicate front and/or rear. Looks like front is not an issue.

What are you using for a rear wheel on your P4? What kind of brake on the front is that?
