OK, I am bored…He is a great talent…Think he has any chance at a classic?..MSR?
two year old thread…what will he win this year
Yes…possibly a future winner IMO
He’s young…he’ll get stronger over the next 8-10 yrs.
And gain experience along the way.
I will qualify it…This year
.
Do you mean a classic, or a monument? He was off the front with Chavanel at Gent Wevelgem (sorry if I butchered those spellings) and I could see him on the podium at a race like Omloop Het Niewsblad this year. I think he’s definitely a future winner of Flanders. I don’t think he’s fast enough to win MSR but will be on the podium, though not this year.
So I’ll say no for this year if you mean monument but definitely in the future, and yes if you mean classic.
Yes monument…You are right about Ghent and Het Volk Yeah I know they changed the name…Wonder if he could ride tails and have a shot. …San Remo? Not Flanders, L-B-L (to hilly?) or Lombardie…Roubaix, to young, not strong enough yet?
I think yes but not this year. I could see him having a Paulo Bettini-type career.
Good comparison…On how strong on the uphills maybe a Oscar F? for the sprints,…Rebellien?..Could be some good races with him an Bosen H and Henrich H
I think if it is slow(er) going up the Muur (ie if Gilbert gets the flu) and he can stick with the lead 10-15, he can burn it up in the final stretch and podium/win Fleche. Oh yeah… Valverde is back, so he needs to get the same flu as Gilbert and PS will have a chance.
yes, thanks to the OP for talking about a sport that actually matters ![]()
As for the RvV, instead of the Muur, you get three trips up the combo of the Oude Kwaremont + Patersberg.
Which means: 2.2km of cobbles at 4.25 percent, followed by less than 1km of respite, and then 400m of cobbles at 12.5% (wait what?). The finish is ~10km from the end of the Patersberg. So not only do you need a boatload of raw power to get over the cobbles, you also need to get over the 12.5% climb. If Gilbert improved his TT ability, it should be his to lose.
As for Sagan, still way too young for MSR. In another forum, i tabulated the age at which the MSR winners first won a monument (WC included). The youngest were Goss and Cav at a few months before their 24th birthday. Sagan’s turning 22 in January. I say another 2 years or so.
Before Sagan’s career is over, I predict he will win multiple monuments and a WC.
But he is still just a kid, so for this year only a minor classic win or two, and some GT stages.
Gotta love the way this guy rides. I don’t have the link handy, but there’s a video of Stage 3 in the Tour De Suisse last year, where Sagan crests the final climb a little ways behind Cunego, chases him down on the descent, and then (predictably) blows him away in the sprint. Awesome display of climbing, descending, and sprinting skills.
The guy is going to be a star…He needs a team for his talents…I also like his aggresive style. He will never need a radio
billions and billions of them…
How about this 17 year-old kid from my cycling club:
Freakish. He won two events in the New Years crit series, beating guys like Matt Goss, Mar Renshaw, Allan Davis and Robbie McEwan.
If you are looking for the Bettini…
He can absolutely podium in a Classic this year…especially if you get a good sized chase group arriving at the end of Flanders. He may not have the experience to contest the outright win, but if he folllows closely and his team keeps him near the front, he can certainly podium.
Wins are a cuple years away in the monumnets. Semi-classics are definitely a strong possibility this year.

That’s the one! I think I’ll go watch it (on the trainer) right now! Hope I don’t fall off leaning into the turns …
you mean cadel ewan?
yes he’s definitely a talent for a future. amazingly fast and talented for such a young guy.
but from what limited vids I’ve seen of him ( and his history- he’s a junior track star at the omnium), he looks a good sprinter ( small body size, aero position, great power output).
but it’s too early to see how he’ll turn out. to win a monument he needs to be able to keep in touch with the best of them on the sharp, steep hills, ala phillipe gilbert or hushovd ( and sagan). So far I haven’t seen that in ewans riding.
but he’ll be a future star, no doubt.
in shot, no he won’t podium this year in a classic but watch out for him in the next few years.

thought there was a typo and had to reread it. does he do mtb as well?
nvmd, i think it’s actually Caleb
I asked a question on another thread that was lost…Ten years from now, who will be the bigger star, Sagan or Boasson Hagen?..Will Haussler be a star then too
