Does everyone rely on resting HR?

I much prefer checking my heart rate for a given effort while out on the bike if I sense I need some extra recovery. The front end of my typical route involves a 15 minute warm-up followed by a little 10 minute climb. If on the climb I can’t get my heart rate up for a given effort, I turn the ride into a recovery ride and I’m usually set to go the next day.

I’ve been averaging around 120 TSS/day for the last 3 weeks and doing loads of L5 and L6 work on the bike. I’ve also started my running again and have been logging 20+ miles a week. It’s the highest total stress I’ve seen in several months. For grins I checked my RHR this morning in bed after back-to-back days of 150+ TSS L4/L5 workouts. My legs are beat and I feel tired. My RHR was nominal. I’ll find out later this morning if my legs and lungs are still working or not.

Reason #526 why I don’t monitor RHR.

Oh my legs and sometimes arms are very tired. I remembered doing a 20000k swim week and I was dragging hard. But my RHR was still normal so I would keep going. I am not seeing if I am tired or draggin ass, which I do alot. I am just making sure I am not over training constantly or training when I am getting sick. See, I could not use the indicator of draggin ass or I would rarely train. This morning I am tired and I still have a tempo ride and intervals in the pool, but my RHR was fine so I am movin along.

I appreciate everyone’s input on this. I like to see the varying styles.
