Does Boston have a chance?

Ask Del Harris.

I was going to say the same.

Just because you are a better coach than Del Harris does not mean you are the best ever.

You can’t make chicken salad out of chickenshit.

Through most of his championships Phil basically had the best player and in some cases arguably the two best players in the league on his team (Pippen/Jordan, Kobe/Shaq). Last night it took the game of Ron Artest’s life to squeak out a win at home in game 7 against a less talented old team without it’s starting center. Sounds more like the luckiest coach ever to me.

Well, you missed the point, which is that only players make a coach. Of course, you can’t win titles without good players, even if you are a good coach. And sometimes you can’t win titles with good coaches and good players. But to dismiss Phil’s accomplishments simply because he coached MJ and KB smacks of someone who’s a little bitter about the whole thing. I know it’s fashionable to hate the Lakers, but you can’t argue with their results.

But yes, to be able to coach two of the best basketball players ever? I’d say a bit of luck and timing may be involved, just to be in that position. But to win 11 titles, with 3 three-peats? You bet last night it took Ron Artest to win, but in previous games it took Gasol, Kobe, and Fisher to win the other 3 games. It’s a series, not one game. And that less talented old team? Just got through ramming the ball down the top teams in the east with the best records in the league (and arguably the best player in the league).

ETA - I have never been a fan of “who’s the best XXXX ever,” there are too many variables and games are played differently in different eras.

I like how Phil Jackson tried to motivate his team by saying that the Celtics have blown more 4th quarters than any other team in basketball.

How’s that working out for you Mr. Zen Master??

Just fine.

Yes next year, look how well LA fans treat their city after a victory, burning cars won’t keep a good team there
.

Cars are disposable in LA.

Cars are disposable in LA.

Especially taxis. Seemed they went after those especially hard.

I know the cops are busy, but they showed a line of cars in traffic with jackasses throwing cones at them, jumping on them, causing havoc, the camera pans up and there’s a line of 40 cops blocking the intersection the cars are trying to go through. just watching the hooligans.

It was interesting, there seemed to be one guy in a Lakers jersey that looked like he was trying to get the assholes to back down (and was doing a good job) and escort the cars through

I wanna know how jack and dustin and leonardo and all the stars got out safely

Good lord, I just saw photos of all the vandalism. What the f*ck is wrong with these people? Why would you celebrate a victory for your home city by destroying it, and harassing your own citizens? I had no desire to ever visit L.A. but that is just ridiculous. I hope San Diego is not anything like that because I’m gonna be there soon.

Pitiful, ain’t it? But in all honesty LA is a very big place, and it’s unlikely you’d ever go to the limited areas affected riots or not. They’re trying to pretty that area up, and they’ve done OK, but it’s still a pretty crummy area.

You should google a bit and see if you can find video of what happened after the 94 King verdict. Same stuff (on a grander scale). Stupid people just like to break and steal shit. I won’t even comment (although I guess I am) on the particular makeup of those causing the problems that night…

BTW, seems it’s a city phenomena, not just an LA thing

Even the vancouverites got into it once…

Oh yeah, I was familiar with the King riots. One of my favorite bands when I was younger (Sublime) wrote a song specifically about it haha.

But yeah, I do recognize that riots seem to happen in a lot of major cities, but for some reason L.A. just sticks out in my mind as the land of riots lol.
