I’m looking at picking up a frame that calls for a 40mm rake for and can’t seem to find a single one. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, how much more “twitchy” would a 43mm rake fork be on a frame designed for the 40mm rake fork? Thanks in advance for any leads…
3T, Edge, Reynolds do 40
Alpha Q does a 41
what is the HTA?
Nutz has the scoops. Look at a metric ruler and see what 3mm looks like. Not much. Some people might could tell the difference between 40 and 43, most could not. I would bet no one would could get 7 out of 10 right on a 1mm difference. HTA (head tube angle) factors in there with the rake and trail formulas as well. I have had a 38 41 and 43 mm on the same bike and I really couldn’t tell if I didn’t know which fork was supposed to be faster or slower steering. I do notice fork flex a lot more than a couple mm difference in rake.
Its a Moots Vamoots with HTA of 73.5. I’ll check out the 3T. I couldn’t even find forks on the Reynolds website…weird? I’m not real big on Alpha Q with the Cervelo Wolf SL fork debacle. Would an Easton 43mm fork be a problem?
Hmm, I can’t find forks on Reynolds site at the moment either.
G-Mans point that most people won’t notice the differences is valid. Still, when you’re getting a nice frame and buying a new fork you may as well try to match them as best you can. And the brands that make aftermarket forks worth having do 40mm anyway.
My Cannondale is 73.5 HTA with a 45mm rake fork, having 52mm of trail hasn’t killed me yet. I would be interested to try a shorter rake fork though.
IMO an easton just wouldn’t match the frame ;), also the axle to crown length on the EC90 is likely 4-5mm shorter than what the bike was designed for which steepens the HTA by 0.3deg. Edge 2.0 is pretty pricey but gets rave reviews and the stealthy appearance would go well with Ti. I’m sure plenty of stores will have Reynolds Ouzo Pro in stock.
