Congratulations to NZs Bevan Docherty - first in Madiera in a sprint finish. Bring on Athens!!
wooo !!! stoked. his hometown is where i live too!!
his sister is also world champ for long distance duathlon.
I’m from Taupo, which is why I’m kinda stoked!!
I remember racing Dochs in montreal some years ago, he didn’t do so well but went on to go a lot better than i expected when he went pro.
on a side note, when are triathlon run courses ever going to be done with a gps? i’d have to estimate that it was at least 400m short, if not more like 500-550. obviously the bike was short too, but that’s not as crucial as the swim or run courses, and they always like to talk about the “29min” 10k’s that these guys are running. oh well, maybe nobody’s as worried as i am (i was always more of a runner so…). Hat’s off to reebs, looks as though she pretty much sewed up the third US spot (as long as she doesn’t fall apart at the last race of course).
CH.
you’re from taupo too?heh. what kinda tris do u do?
the race was advertised to the pros at the pro meeting as well as the managers meeting as 9.8k. They could have easily made it 10k, but it doesºt really matter that much.

bev is awesome. we’re good friends since I stayed for 2 mths with his family prior IM 2000. we’re (the docs and me) all pushing him in athens to go for gold.
cheers to lovely taupo, I feel homesick,
uli from germany
p.s. enjoy winter :)))
I agree that the actual distances themselves don’t matter much, but why doesn’t the ITU at least indicate the true distances on the official results (http://itu.sportsindex.net/wcelite2004/lists/itu.php?race=1) instead of being mis-leading?

according to my itu racing friends the reason why major races are often short is to produce fast results.
