I just purchased my first pair of tri-specific bike shoes (Bontrager RXL hilo). I’ve been using regular road bike shoes on my tri bike and road bike until now. Just curious if y’all ever use your tri shoes on road bike rides? On a side note, our group had about 25 riders start out the other night and a guy was wearing an aero helmet (long tail end type) while riding his road bike. Now winds were ~20 mph and every time he turned his head I thought it was going to twist off. He also quickly fell behind.
I have two pairs of riding shoes and they’re both tri shoes so I don’t have another option!
I would use my road shoes for the road rides. I have trivents and s-works road shoes and the trivents are a bit softer and don’t hold my foot as tight. I have them for the benefits they give me in triathlons, racing and training. So I don’t see the point using them for group rides when I have another pair of shoes that do an excellent job
I wear my tri shoes, and leave them strapped in when we stop for coffee or whatever, and I laugh at the others sounding like horses and slipping all over the place
.
1 pair Tri shoes. 2 pair road shoes. I generally wear the road shoes out on the road and on the trainer till I get close to a a Tri then I wear what I plan to wear during the Tri. “Don’t try anything new in your Tri”.
Meh, I have the S-works trivent and the Giro Prolight road shoe, sometimes its just what I’m feeling that day sort of thing. Hot Hot days though it can be nice to have well vented shoes like the trivent.
I had both, found myself using only my Tri shoes. I know only own a pair of tri shoes. I only had one roadie make fun of me but he became really quiet when I invited him out for a run after our century. It was more of a friendly banter. Roadies will focus more on your socks, kit and if your sunglasses are outside or inside your helmet strap.

LOL. I bought some S-Works Trivent shoes this weekend at the Texas 70.3 expo for $199. On a whim I put my KEO clips on them Sat night and raced them Sun morning having never worn them before. All was good. Man they are nice shoes. Probably not the smartest thing but it worked out.
Yep. Almost every ride. My road shoes are beaters and I only wear them in bad weather.
