In an ironman distance race do you use elastic shoe laces - like Easy Laces or Yankz? Do the pros use elastic laces in ironman distance races? If no, why? Does anyone use lace locks?
I like the velcro speed straps.
Don’t know about Ironman (yet) but I’ve used Yankz for my last 6 tri’s (up to half iron) and I haven’t had any problems. Good product in my mind.
I use elastic ones. They rule.
I use lace locks, thinking about trying elastic laces after looking at the transition times of a couple of people I know who use them.
was it this last year when nbc footage showed lori b running along with her shoelace untied? I have used yankz but, maybe b/c i have a wide foot the elastic laces always seem to be too tight across the top of the foot. so i have switched to just keeping ordinary laces tied. works fine for me.
I use Easy Laces. If you are a “tight shoe” person, it may take a while to get used to. I love them. The best part is there is never any pinching as you feet swell, etc. Another nice thing is that as your foot hits the ground, the laces expant a little. If you have “foot issues” though and rely on the shoe for stability or motion control, it may not be so optimal. I use them in all my running shoes, all the time.
I wondered that about Lori B’s laces too. It looks to me like she used lace locks and the resulting laces were way too long. Looked like she could trip! Anyone know more? Maybe it is a secret running strategy for her. Extra long laces so her running style has to stay off the laces and it makes her faster! ![]()
Yankz are the best. I have tried lace locks and easy laces and Yankz are by far the best! I will never use “normal” laces again!
John - i had a similar problem with elastic and solved it with a non standard lacing pattern. Skip the middle holes - alleviates the pressure on the foot.
