Do you tune your bike after unboxing it after a race?

Just wondering what other people do after a race after they box up their bike. It was boxed up, unpacked and tuned up, then boxed back up for travel. Should I get it tuned up again after unboxing it?

I do it all myself, so yes. (But I was also a mechanic for 5 years).

If things get bumped/shifted in transit, it is easy to knock brakes or derailleurs out of alignment. But should only be about a 5 minute adjustment to make sure it all works.

I would.

I had mine tuned at a shop and boxed it up myself to fly over here. I reassembled it myself because there isn’t a reliable shop outside of Dubai. Anyway, it didn’t quite shift right after that and I had to re-tune it. Wasn’t too big a deal.

When I’ve packed my bike I removed the rear derailleur so it wouldn’t get bent.

When I put it back together, most of the time it’s fine but I have an adjuster on my cable housing near my stem so I can make small adjustments.

Yep. Bikes can get banged around when being transported, so I always give mine a good going over. If nothing else, mine usually needs a little tweaking when I switch back from my race wheels to my training wheels.

If you mean pay someone else to do it heck no. I’d put it together, shift up/down a couple of times on the stand, give it a visual, then hop on and do a lap around the driveway while shifting up and down a couple of times, and away I go. I always ride with a bike tool, but I’d be extra sure to have one along the first few times.

Do it yourself or have someone who knows what they’re doing look at it. Almost every race I’ve boxed a bike to there has been at least a slight shifting issue after I rebuilt it.
