Do you train 7 days a week?

Or do you ever take a full rest day?

sometimes yes, sometimes no. If your schedule is done right you won’t need a full day every week. Instead of a day off, do an easy 30 min spin on the trainer with very light resistance, or go to the pool and swim 1k worth of drills.

Right now I train every day my coach tells me to. In the off season (that is, when I’m not in a structured coaching program), I “workout” 6 days per week.

I train 7days/week: My rest ‘day’ is between my Sunday morning long ride, and a Monday evening 3k swim.

7 days for me, when I try to take a rest day I end up cramming more into the other six and it seems harder.

Absolutely. I’m lucky to have an excellent coach who makes sure that each session is of great quality. If I’m getting the quality I’ll also take an extra day off if I feel knackered.

Don’t be afraid to rest…

I train 7 days but sunday is normally an easier day done quite early and monday has an easier 4k swim.

Yes, most weeks I do train 7 days a week. Thankfully I have a coach and I pay her to figure out what/when. Looking at the last four weeks I have a total of one complete day off. Guess what? It’s today! sleep…sleep…sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz for me.

I always take a full rest day except during a crash week.

I also train on a 3 week schedule so I’m up for 2 weeks and then easy for 1 week.

Some people say that you will lose a week of training all of the time but you actually only get 1 more easy week for every 12 weeks of training using this schedule.

What I found with a 4 week cycle was that I trained great for 2 weeks and then fell off during the 3rd week and then had my easy week, so in a sense, I was losing 1 week of training every 4 weeks with that system. Now I can train hard for 2 weeks knowing I’m going to get recovery soon, I feel stronger, recover faster and have better quality sessions, plus I’m having more fun.

I do 6 days usually…and mostly 2 workouts per (MWF swim in a.m., run in the afternoon…lift in the a.m., TH ride or trainer in the afternoon) except for the Saturday brick …Sunday is church and yard work day…

I too use a rest day. I think it depends on what you can fit into a weeks worth of training. If you can get 15+ hours of training and still have a rest day that’s the way to go. It may require (as in my case) doing three workouts/day on 2-3 days but it still permits a rest day. I believe it all revolves around volume so you must get the hours up. But I also recognize that not everyone has the opportunity to train at times 3 sessions per day. In this case I’d skip the total rest day and implement an active recovery day in the pool or on a spin bike or something along that lines.

Do you have a job or a family?! Do they know who you are? :stuck_out_tongue:

Too hard to get going after even one day of rest. 20 min easy on the trainer once a week.

Yes and no. I train everyday until I feel like I need a rest day. It works out to average about 6 days of training per week because my rest day is not the same each week. I just go by feel and motivation each day regarding whether or not I workout that day, but once I commit to workout, its a full effort during the workout. (I’m not going to ‘go through the motions’ on a day when I’m tired and it really should be a rest day.)

Family? My job is a work from home job. If I didn’t’ have this luxury, I would not be able to hold the workout schedule I hold today and would convert back to short course training exclusively.

When doing tris - 5 or 6 days. Tried 7 once or twice and that just did not work at all - body just needs a rest day. 3 on 1 off seems to work well although that is tough to keep consistent. Monday is always a rest day and usually Friday.

I am self employed…and the schedule works great with 2 kids…karate practice…show jumping a horse and cheerleading…The morning is done very early…and the afternoons are done before the kids are home from school…

On Wednesdays, I only have one scheduled workout, and it is a “non-essential” easy run (my 5th run of the week). I view this as an optional day. If I am feeling overly tired, I’ll sleep in and skip my Wednesday run.

About every 3 weeks I take a full rest day. Most weeks have 1 or 2 easy days built in.

My athletes are all different, some take 2 days per, some are on a ‘train until you need the day’ schedule. Varies by their current ability, athletic history, goals, drive, recovery ability, etc.

I plan on training every single day, and can go more than a lunar cycle without a day off with no problems. I don’t do “epic” workouts that leave me laid up for days afterwards. My “days off” come in the form of events that require I take time off, like a recent three night/ four day batchelor party in Vegas.
