subtitle, "this season’s version of “does anyone else just want to collapse when they get home from work?”
Do you:
(A) set an alarm so you can get XYZ in before work
(B) wake up on your own and then train in whatever time you have ‘left’
(C) set the alarm and hit snooze
I theorize that B might be better because you’d be a bit more rested; with A you’d be tired but get more training in.

really tired grad student-athlete.
PS. Dev, I don’t want to hear the “getting up before 6 am is putting yourself in a different time zone speech.”
How about (D) Set an alarm to get in xyz before work, and on the weekends, get in xyz before it’s 100 degress here in FL. The single biggest issue for me is having to get up early almost every single day. With an intense job and 2 young kids, I can get training time or sleep, but not both. Generally I am up at 4:30 and on the bike at 5 at least 2-3 times a week and up at 5:30 and running by 6 3 days a week. Sleep in day is Monday, until 6:20. When I arrived in Zurich for IM Switzerland with limited workouts, no work stuff and no school for the kids, I got in 3 nights of 10-12 hours. It was probably the highlight of the year…
I thought as I was walking to the coffee shop this morning “when do we get to set the clocks back? I want my extra hour of sleep.”
And then laughed at myself for how ridiculous it sounded.
November 1. I was asking myself the same exact question this morning when I was almost 2 hours into my ride before I could see the data on the SRM…
I use to have my alarm set for 5:00 and do 15 min stretching before getting ready. Then I decided to get in pull ups and push up so I set it for 4:45 so I could snooze and have 30 mins to get some exercise in before work. Now I just snooze for 45mins dont do anything. So I suppose I progressivly went from A to C
I almost always get a run in before work. I have a 35 minute drive to get to work without traffic, but if there is traffic (rush hour) it can literally take 90 minutes. So I usually get up at 0445 on work days and drive way early. I get there around 6 AM and run for an hour. Then I can shower and eat breakfast before my shift starts at 0800.
I will not go to bed without setting my alarm. Some days I wake up before it, some days I wake up with it. I’m generally tired either way.
Usually wake up one hour before my alarm… but I always have it set just in case. Do my PT perscribed routines and then a ten mile ride to the transit station. When I’ve over done it I will sleep up to my alarm. That way I have no excuses for getting in at least ten miles in the morning and twenty in the afternoon. And I finally found my leg warmers this morning that made a big difference : )
