Do you 'Saran Wrap' your trainer bike?

I just use towels, but if I sweat a lot all over my workout room, I might get one of these:

Well that remote control system certainly beats my use of an Oxo 4-Cup measuring cup thingy that I stole from the kitchen and hang off the aerobars…

Leave it to triathletes to make the most simple of solutions so complex it requires the purchase of yet another piece of equipment.

Really, how about just a towel?

As said, the towel alone didn’t work for me. It was either too big and got in the way of everything, flopping all over, or too small and let sweat leak through.

The bike thong also failed as well - I’m mounting it on a TT bike, and the thong doesn’t grab the horns forward enough to cover the headset.

I never thought I’d be looking at custom-covers for the headset, but with the amount of damage I’ve been causing to the bike without a dedicated cover, at this rate, I’ll be looking at a totally destroyed Cervelo within 2 years.

Needless to say, even with a big fan, I sweat a lot. I’ve poured out over an entire cup of water within a 75 minute workout from my Cycleops trainer riser block (the big round one). Yuck. Towel alone = fail for me.

Put together a dedicated trainer bike, a cheap rubber mat, and a towel. Picked up a used Motobecane Nemesis for nothing, put on the same saddle as my tri-bike, then got pretty close to my race geometry. The thing will never see the road (I cannibalized the brakes) and I don’t wear out the bikes I actually care about. Oh, tires - I get old ones from my LBS for free.

I’d first buy one of those dedicated training bikes which you can put into an aero position, as they’re pretty corrosion proof, before getting another bike to waste. But saran wrap is a lot cheaper. =)

These things suck. Just use a towel. Saran wrap is a good idea. And using T9 on everything is helpful.

Hand towel or two work for me on road or tri bikes. After the ride, rinse with water, then spray with T9 or WD-40. Every few months, take the stem off and clean up the steer tube and replace parts as necessary.

I learned the hard way - alu spacers corroded to the alu steer tube on my P2. Had to cut the steer tube and spacers to get it out.
