I got my new bike today - I’ll get some pics up tomorrow, hopefully. Took it for a ride this afternoon, and decided it needed a name! I’m calling it “Chatter.” I like the word, you get that nice sharp sound from the ch and the tt, it fits the bike I think.
I don’t have to name my bikes; my wife does it for me – “get that f’N @(&(+ g*#d*7n thing off my dining room table!” Apparently there are places in the house where you shouldn’t fix your girls.
I named all of my bikes after women I’ve (known). I tried to match the character of the bike to the character of the women, but I ran out of names for women I’ve (known) a few bikes ago. My bikes are/were:
Jody - Nobody forgets their first love. Blue/white 1986 Cannondale R600. Amy - Twin sister of Jody. Blue/white 1986 Klein Pulse mountainbike Melinda - A bit heavy, and puts up with more abuse than she should have to. She deserves better treatment than she gets from me. 2000 KHS FXT mountainbike. Debra - 2003 Softride TT. Named after Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond (I had run out of names by now :-)). Gracie - 2004 Specialized Langster. Gracie was my favorite female dog… she was “fixed”, the bike was “fixed”. Jennifer - 2005 Motobecane Grand Sprint. Jennifer was a generic name for girls my age, and the bike was likewise generic.
I have also names my guns, my bowlilng balls, and various other pieces of gear. I’m weird like that :-).
I’ve had a zillion bikes and never named any of them. Then I got a P3sl this year (black anodized finish). Put VT integrated bars on it and when I mounted the Renn disc and Zipp 404 on the front (decals removed for maximum stealthiness) I was just awed by how cool it looked. It was the SR-71 of bikes … the Blackbird!
