I am posting as I was diagnosed with this and (since I know a couple of others with the same issue) I thought it may be more common than we think. I am not trying to play amateur Ortho. Just telling my story.
So, I up my mileage this year in a controlled but systematic manner. Soon I notice I have a tight & sore hamstring on one side and not the other. It is not so much that it bothers me when I work out (bike or run). But, it is something that is quite uncomfortable when driving a car for more than 1 hour or sitting in meetings. Stretching and a heating pad help but never resolve it.
I see the Ortho yesterday. Once the assistant understands I have high hamstring issue, she immediately orders an x-ray of my pelvis.
I guess it is pretty treatable with PT but will not self-correct. People can live with this for years (my buddy has been mis-diagnosed for 7 years).
Turns out I am out of alignment on the pelvis. One side higher and rotated forward too. PT starts next week.
