Do you Campy guys/ladies have problems with junk finding it’s way into the BB? I just switched out my Dura Ace 10 to Campy Record and the space between the crank arms and bottom bracket is very noticeable. The external BB on the DA10 basically acts as a cover for the bikes BB area so I really never had a problem getting sand/dust/mud/ etc in that area. Therefore have you had any problems with this?

Thanks for your help.

Campy riders tend to be snobby and prudish, as a result they rarely have anything work its way into their bottom bracket.

I once rode over some charcoal…had a diamond in my BB when I got home.

And to answer the question, no…the Record BB does not let anything in at all. The space on the DA is more than enough for things to get into, on top of the fact that the DA 9 BB was not even sealed.

Wow. I hadn’t even thought of that as a potential problem area. No difficulties in the last two years (Not Record, just Veloce 10). Maybe I’ll ask my LBS wrench so he can reassure me (in a snobby prudish way of course  .

Don’t know how the road groups go, but I have Record Track on my track/single speed bike, and I’ve NEVER had any hint of roughness, even using it as a commuter through rather disgusting conditions. The rifling on the BB cup where the spindle goes through works with the spindle rotation to make sure that any movement of anything in that area is outward, so unless you’re pedaling backwards a lot, nothing should get in there.

Never had a problem with either a Record or Chorus BB.

Thanks for the replies 'twitchers. My nose held high while I say this of course.

One thing though - Campy makes ONE BB…it has two labels on it “Record” and “Chorus” - same but for some carbon bits. Anything lower is SHIT and should not be on ANY bike. Even a Record BB is cheap…not a place you would want to skimp as a bad BB will cause a shit ton of power loss and you may not even notice it.
