Do you believe Paul Homm's comeback?

I thought he was done for. I was going to bed. I asked my daughter, “so, who REALLY won?”

She said “Homm!”

I said, “No! REALLY?”

“Homm!” she insisted.

So I stayed up 'til midnight. (Ugh! My required rest is taking it on the chin.)

UNBELIEVEABLE! That’s really sticking it out and going for everything, when everyone thought it was over.

Super cool. Amazing. The reason to watch this on TV. I go downstairs to put clothes in the dryer and the guy is in damage control mode. I come back from the basement and they are playing the national anthem.

Awesome. Amazing. The U.S. has really distinguished themselves in this Olympics.

Yes sir, intensely dramatic competition. I so enjoy Olympic competition and the amazing performances.

Yes, but no judges contributed for Thorpe’s result.

Not 9th, 12th!!!

That’s true about the use of judges, but he nailed both routines, and everyone else messed up.

Yeah, lots of little mistakes by everyone kept the door open. Homm’s last rotation on the high bar was pretty phenomenal.

“Yes, but no judges contributed for Thorpe’s result.”

What’s the point? Did Hamm work less because he had judges? Did Thorpe work harder to lose just because he was timed instead of judged?

Yeah. I didn’t quite get that either…

Objective vs subjective, that’s all.

Meaning that Thorpe “lost” on the merits as opposed to somebody else’s decision?

Nature of the beast with gymnastics…

Did you feel that Homm unfairly won?

Yeah, I don’t get that. That’s like saying the U.S. softball team won, but the Thorpe didn’t have a home plate ump. They’re two different sports. You compete inside the structure and rules of your sport. I don’t see why that would lessen Hamm’s efforts.

was even when things looked dark for Hamm, you couldn’t read it on his face. I’d be cursing and throwing chairs but he was a cool customer. Then went out and killed on the last two events. Very very amazing and inspiring. There was a lot a young (and old) athlete could learn from watching that performance.

Please excuse me, I didn’t know Homm had Lance status… Are you guys family or something? If you didn’t get that I was taking a snipe at judge-based sports, what can I do…

I don’t think anyone’s pissed off at you… at least, I’m not. I was just struggling to understand the context of the statement. It just didn’t seem to fit.

It was very obvious you don’t care for judge-based sports, but I just didn’t see how it fit into the discussion.

I dont believe it and will not believe it until his drug test comes back positive. Even then, he’s probably on the same jamba juice LA is on. Sport is going to hell!!!

“I didn’t know Homm had Lance status”

Hamm has Hamm status. i’m not arguing for him in particular. I just don’t understand why his victory has to have a qualifier attached to it when discussed next to Thorpe’s not winning. Hamm got it done, and Thorpe (or more accurately, Thorpe’s relay team) didn’t. I’d have the same question if it was a Chinese or Korean or anyone else out there.
