Do we need drafting rules?

It seems a large part of the issue lately is the enforcement and definition of drafting rules and the potential capricious nature of the calls. I have a solution…get rid of them all together. That was the call made when triathlon went olympic in large part due to potential for race-altering bad calls (I presume). Why not admit that bike racing involves drafting, embrace it, and get on with things. Still leaves open the possibility of “time trial” formats where people go off in staggered fashion like Memphis in May. Besides, its OK to draft in running and swimming and nobody is complaining (granted the speeds are less). Anyway, just food for thought.

Ha Ha Ha.
You’re a funny little troll aren’t you?

This is why I just say make a pro division and elite division that has any money, and nationals they want to get to worlds. This would mean that all AG’s are doing races for exercise. If they want to draft, let them. Then can decide whether they got the exercise they wanted.

IMO, That would be fine if some sort of category system was introduced like in cycling. In general, putting a large group of people together on the road with bikes, all going as fast as they can, makes for a very unsafe situation. Especially when you add inexperienced people to the mix.

I think a larger problem is one of philospohy, drafting introduces teamwork and triathlon is supposedly an individual sport.

I think as more and more people understand the Tour de France, and with it, the TT stages, they would be more tolerant of a similar format with triathlon, though it would make a LOT more work for the television crews.

Because this is TRIATHLON, not bike racing?
