Do I really need motion control running shoes?

technique totally makes shoe type relevant or irrelevant. but usually running technique directly correlates to footstrike pattern which is what you should be picking your shoes by. It’s when you start picking shoes strictly by foot type that you run into problems. Also if you’re more of a forefoot striker a lot of the stability devices in shoes will have little or no effect on you. Also by skipping the heel strike to midfoot transition phase you also more or less lock out your foot on impact curbing pronation as well. It’s probably not the best for you shock absorption wise but hey if it works… I would say to pay attention to whether the shoe is geared towards smaller or larger runners though and if you don’t need the stability features skip them.

People always complain about all the types of shoes, you should just learn to adapt and use a minimalist shoe and all that. It’s true you can probably adapt, some people also have the biomechanics where they can wear any shoe, piece of crap Payless shoe or $130 name brand and be fine. It’s just that for a lot of people it’s a lot easier to choose a shoe which corrects any imbalance than to take a ton of time to train the body to correct that imbalance which might not work out anyways…
