Looks like my computrainer will arrive on time tomorrow. So, aside from keeping my Kurt Kinetic Pro just for shits&giggles, is there a practical reason to keep it? I mean, if I just wanted to get on the CT and just spin away for 45mins for whatever reason without setting it up, I suppose there wouldn’t be any resistance to it, right? I guess the Kurt could be just for those times…
May be convenient to hold on to, if you wife or friend wants to spin with you.
You can just use your CT in Ergo mode and can set watts you want on it or ride one of the pre programmed settings.
I kept my fluid trainer as a backup just in case I was going to go do a group spin somewhere but really haven’t used it much but I like having it around just in case.
Ok – so is that a process? I mean, that sounds simple, but does that take much time to set up? Perhaps I have an incorrect vision in my mind of how this thing works, because I envision having to connect it to my laptop, get it communicating, programming, and etc. I don’t know. <:-/ I hope it comes with the book Computrainer for Dummies.
No it is pretty easy and the instructions that you get with your unit will walk you through it but essentially you use it as you would your other trainer except you use the handlebar unit to set the watts or select a programmed setting. For this you only need to have the unit plugged in and the handlebar unit hooked up, no laptop required. I tend to use it more this way than I do to ride a course. When riding a course it is hard for me to keep at a consistant wattage where in this mode the unit stays at the set watt level regardless of cadence. You can find a lot of information on this in the www.Racermateinc.com forum.
I still do ride courses often but I can do a much more structured workout in the Ergo mode.
Hope this helps.
It might be useful to warm up at races…

And this is why I posted the question… I completely forgot about that. I do, in fact, use it for that. I would have started preparing to pack for the first race and would have realized it then. Ok, it’s staying.
Thanks.
