On the same note, I actually think he’d be in a more aero position on the drops of the road bar than the aero bars with the current set-up.
No question, way more aero. But trying holding that position after swimming for a long time. Ouch. Aero bars are as much for relaxation as aeroness.
Uh…let me get to ya…can’t type well when I am laughing so hard…
Does it get hot riding in that SWEATER?
Find a position you are comfortable in and then ride that a lot. Pleeeease stop the ST positioning mafia.
Dude, your position does not look cool. If you do not look cool, you cannot be fast. If you were riding with your hands on the brake hoods your position would not change much at all…so as you are now, your aero position does nothing for you. You are too stretched out. Ditch that stem and get one that is horizontal to the ground. Ditch the triple chainring and the cargo bag on the back of your seat. With compact geometry, you need a forward seat post. Ditch the white socks too, black socks are much cooler.
Try to look more like this guy:

He’s already comfortable, which is why he is catching air like a sail. If he wants to get faster, he has to get lower.

Not true! You do not need a forward leaning seatpost!! I too ride a Giant in time trial set-up and with my bike size and torso length a front leaning seat post is not necessary.
Not just you, but everyone automatically assumes if you’re riding a road geometry bike in time trial set-up you need a forward post, so not true!! It totally depends on the person and bike!
I originally turned my seat post around to move the seat forward because I was even more stretched out, but I wasn’t able to make the seat level, or even close to level for comfort. I put a Thompson Elite post on, and now the seat is forward and I have more adjusment control.
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Now I remember why I don’t come to this forum anymore.
Actually, there are a few professional triathletes that ride road geometry Giant bikes. They get away with this because Giant makes them with a shorter cockpit. The frame is fine, just need to learn to tweak a few places.
perfect if it works for you, but suggesting that everyone needs a forward seat post on a road or compact geometry bike gets my panties in a bunch! ![]()
You could definitely use a shorter stem and that will bring you in as well!
aw come on! it’s not that bad. The flash created a shadow in the fluff. When I color corrected the image, the shadows got even darker. Anyway, my wife like it!
I thought you didnt wear panties…
Have you put him a wind tunnel to prove this? Have you put him on a power meter? Are you aware of any back or leg problems? No? Then all this is guess work and nothing more.
ah, very good memory! ![]()
yes yes, most of the time! I dont wer panties either, nor do I wear a “sweater” when I ride!
I ride an Orbea Mitis with a forward seatpost with the seat (Fizik Arione) all the way forward. I think Mr. Fludgerim needs the same setup. Look at the space between his knees and elbows…a forward post would correct that. So I agree with you, it might not be the solution for everyone but in his case I think it is worth a try.
He just needs to make sure he’s not to far over his front wheel, which could make for some sketchy riding!
Yeah, that “sweater” may get caught in the spokes…OUCH!
