Has anyone done the Disney Olympic Tri? I signed up, but don’t get much info about anything from the Disney folks. I’ve seen a few race reports that indicate it has been a poorly directed race in the past.
Michael Brown could of done a better job directing it last year.
When I did it a couple years ago, I got some fat pre race package in the mail, and an email with the same info.
It was horribly run in most respects. TNT was there, adding salt to the wound. The run course ran out of Powerade, might have run out of water by the end of the race. The post race was one of the most anemic I have ever seen. No decent food at all, no cold drinks, no shade with the finish in an exposed parking lot.
Have fun. I’ll never do this race again, and am real hesitant to do any other Disney events as a result.
I did this race a few years ago and thought it was fairly well run. The only thing out of the ordinary was the gantlet of TNT cheerleaders with cow bells and kazoos at packet pick up. Don’t wear purple to packet pickup because you might trigger a false alarm!
From what I remember:
The water was warm, the bike course had more hills (minor) than I thought it would and running through Epcot was nice. They sent me a packet and a long email with all the race info - maybe a month or so before the race and they had a mandatory race briefing at packet pick up.
I had a good time and I would do this race again if the timing works out.
Have fun and good luck.
Thanks for the comments. I’m visiting my mom and dad in Orlando and thought this might be a fun race. Unfortunately, I’m picturing an overcrowded course, lots of confusion, and little race support.
Forgot to mentino the 5 ft wide path used by Incoming cyclists, outgoing cyclists, incoming runners, and outgoing runners. AND the bike course was short (~20mi total)!
I have done it a few times and enjoy it. I like the Disney venue, love the swim in the lake and the rolling hill bike course. I understand they made the bike course much longer this year.
You should give the Disney International race a tri if your in town. They have new bike and run courses this year and one transition. They will be using the same tranistion as the Ironman 70.3 Florida race - same swim, sort of the same bike course (one loop with all right hand turns) and the run course will be on fitness paths and roads in the Campground. Finish line is right next to the transition.
The race course for the event has changed each year and this year the course is a proven winner as it was used for the Ironman 70.3 Florida race in May.
If you have any questions on the course, please feel free to contact me anytime. Z
