Disney Marathon Weekend

Who’s doing the Disney Marathon weekend in 2 weeks? Let us know the races & corals…
Me: Marathon only, in coral D (Not so easy to get into A/B this year with new coral sizes)

I’ll be there.

I’ll be there, corral A #215

See you there!

I’ll be there. Corral B.

OK. Maybe just hard to get in A or B for us slower marathoners. Save some water & bananas for us in the back & best of luck. Few more runs to go.

Dopey Challenge…starting way behind you. Just hoping to finish the whole thing. Not worried about the first 3 days.

I am also running the Dopey Challenge. Probably, just survival mode. Had anyone done any of the races before? Any insight you can provide.

Jeff

Have run there lots of times.

  1. yes, you need to get up super early. If you are taking the resort bus, don’t wait for the last expected time. If you are driving yourself, leave even earlier because traffic can be bad.
  2. The races themselves can be very crowded, depending on your corral. For slow chicks like me, it’s a mess. Some of the course gets narrow (in the parks), so just watch out. Watch for a few curbs in the parks, too.
  3. It can be a total blast! And the Dopey challenge…well, dopey, and I better finish, because I’m one and done for that. 4 days of getting up early will suck.
    Enjoy!

P.S. The jalapeno margarita at the Mexico pavilion is very good.

Agree on all points (including the margaritas - best part of doing the Disney races is trying the drinks in the different country pavilions afterwards). Be prepared for a lot of waiting around and being up very early, but definitely catch an early shuttle if staying in the park. Traffic jam for those staying outside the park can suck and provide some unnecessary pre-race stress.

I’ve only done the marathon but my wife did the Goofy Challenge a few years back. She said the key for her for back to back races was pacing (she said it was tough holding back in the half Mary and had to think of it as an easy training run rather than a race). She stayed off her feet as much as possible afterwards, staying hydrated and doing a ton of stretching that afternoon to keep loose and rested for the marathon on Sunday.

My wife and I will be doing the Coast to Coast challenge. It’s 2 x halfs, Tinkerbell in Jan (CA) and The Pricess half in (Feb) FL. She thinks I’m going to run in a costume. It’s kinda BS. I qualify to start w/ the elite runners (you only needed a 2:15 WTFO!, I ran a 1:32) but since it’s a “womens” race, men can’t start in the front. There are a lot of women’s races that do that, and it pisses me off. If it happened to be a men’s race doing the same thing, there would be a f-ing uproar.

Rant over.

I think you can rant at your wife for the race choices on that. You could do the Coast to Coast by doing any of the 3 half marathons at DisneyWorld (the classic one in January, the Princess in February, or the Wine and Dine in the fall) and doing either the Tinkerbell (Jan) or the regular 1/2 (Labor Day weekend) at Disneyland. You picked the 2 specific women-targeted races… My boyfriend was quite happy doing Coast to Coast last year in Corral A by doing the ‘classic’ races. Though, with the new corral system in place for this year’s big marathon weekend, he’ll be in Corral D. I do hope the smaller, but more of them, plan for the corrals helps some of the congestion on the course.

I will be there and am signed up for the half marathon. How do you check your #/Corral? I was originally planning this as a PR effort, but I’ve been injured and won’t be doing anything impressive at all. 10% chance my alarm sounds and I turn it off and go back to sleep. Not sure the point of getting up at 3:30 for a fun run . . . that doesn’t sound fun!

Go to the rundisney website for the Disney Marathon weekend and you can print out in advance your waiver which all runners must sign and turn in at expo to get package. On that waiver is you bib number and they also have the coral listing pdf somewhere in the runner info tab too. Line up your bib number with the corals and you are good to go.
I have a sprained ankle but when I spend all that money flying the family down for 6 nights and hotels on property, I’m running it. Likely with a limp and 2 weeks recovery to it after the race. If it were a local smaller race I would be questioning it too. Disney races are always the funnest anyway so even if no PR I like em.

I am #21 and in the “elite” corral for the Half. Nice little ego boost for a moment, but then my wife laughed at me when I told her, so that put me back in my place.

Doing the Goofy again this year. Have done the race several years. Should be in Coral A but will probably drop to B as an IT issue and regaining fitness from pregnancy have slowed me down. Planning on have an enjoyable experience never the less. I think I’m more excited to watch my daughter in her “race” (kids race - 100m dash) - for her it’ll be how many leaves she can stomp on  Good luck to everyone and may the mouse be with you!

Absolutely. She’s just starting to venture out and run some races, so I figure if I have to look like an idiot to get her to do it it’s still worth it…maybe…still not going to wear pink.

Full Marathon. Corral B - #413. I’ll be wearing a Goofy hat, yep the one with the ears. Super excited for this race - hoping to PR by quite a bit.

I’m going down with a group of about 10 people in late 20’s and will be hitting the town Sunday night. If any STers want to meet up let me know!

bt - Debbie and Kaitlyn will be doing Dopey with you! Have Fun! Z
