From the results it appears that Bjorn lost a podium spot to Michael Lovato in T2. Lovato beat Bjorn by 17 seconds total, and by 52 sec. in T2.
Lesson of the day: transitions count, too!

It was a pretty good race except for the last 2 miles of the run. Safety was not an issue. I would do this race again just not stay at a disney hotel.
I just got back from Orlando, and adding my 2 cents to the race experience.
Heat was definitely a brutal factor on the run. I was still 90 out at 6pm, so it must have been in the mid 90s on the run. Too hot this time of the year IMO for this race. Maybe couple weeksearlier, or in the fall would be better. Swim had to be a bit long, top guys finished in 25s. Would have expected guys like Bjorn and Lessing to go in the 23s, even w/o wetsuits. Didn’t like the fact they only allowed a 2hr window to swim in Bay Lake prior to the race. Transition area in the sand sucked. Couldn’t avoid getting some in the shoes. Plus the uneveness of the surface contributed to me rolling my ankle in T2. Bike course was fast in front half, but some of the road conditions just plain sucked in the 2nd half. Run course was narrow, probably too narrow if they ever plan to bump this up to a full IM. The sand portion of the run wasn’t fun, and the last 1 1/2 mile was a bit of a tease since you passed by the crowds and still had a decent bit left to go. Also getting to transition on race morning was hectic, since athletes had to take buses from the designated parking areas. Logistically, this could use improvement, as a lot of people had to scramble to get out of transition before it closed.
There were definitely a lot of good things about the race despite the above, and I think it has a lot of potential. Great destination, amazing pro field, and awesome volunteer support. I think there are some flaws to be worked out, and some modifications should be made to the bike and run course. Probably will pass on next year, since planning on CDA for next year, but definitely would like to return.
And if anyone has energy to do so, I recomment drinking around the world at Epcot. By the 11th country, you’re pretty drunk off your ass.
IMO, Great innaugral race, a few items need to be tweaked. We brought the kids down, they loved it. The only thing more painful than the 90dg run was the following day in the Majic Kingdom. After 4 hours of standing in lines, we discovered that alcohol was not available in the “Kingdom”. If we go back next year, we will go to Pleasure Island the next Day.
Congrats to all that competed.
I agree about the swim. I figured 100 yards or so long. Since it was perfectly calm-essentially waveless-I expected 22-23 for the swim.
When we left at 1:00 p.m. people were still out on the front part of the run course. It must have been close to 100 degrees down on the pavement about then with around 80% humidity. I hope they all finished…
The med tent wasn’t full, by the way, but they had their share. Saw a couple of guys with some nasty road rash…
Having the race two weeks earlier would be nice, but no guarantee that it will be cool. We’ve had 90 degree days in January down here. ![]()
I’d say this would be a good race to bring the family to and just kick back and get in a good workout. If you haven’t trained in the heat yet because you live up North, just take it easy on the run course and you’ll be fine. It would be a B race for me and I’m acclimated.
