Anyone else doing Disney International? I was trying to find some race info and on their website it says…“due to safety issues, we have made the bike 58K”. Does anyone know why they have to add 18K to clear up safety issues? I’ve seen races shorten or lengthen a course by a couple miles, but that seems a little extreme. No big deal, I just want to make sure I’m reading that right?
Did they also change the name since international is supposed to be a certain distance.

Really…I guess this will be a race where everyone will universally agree that the bike course is a little long!
All agree on ST? Na.
I do agree that is a pretty big change.

LOL!
I was contemplating this race since it is in September and would be a good warmup to the GFT. Given the terrain around Disney I can’t imagine FTW they are talking about. I can just see them arguing about how to spin it. “No, LONGER races are muuuuuch safer! We should just make it 56mi like the half!”
My understanding is that they had to change what roads they were riding on over past years. Prior there were some service roads that were a) out of the main road network, unmonitored, and difficult to access quickly in case of emergency and b) not in the best of repair. My guess is they went with a route that kept the course on main roads within Disney, and just the matter of networking and traffic control they came up with this odd length.
FYI for those of you who care - this is a major TNT event for the east coast, so expect a couple hundred there. I don’t know if they are doing separate TNT waves however. Dsiney is short on giving details.
OMG, that is a DREAM distance, 1.5K - 58K - 10K. I bet its a busy race and to spread the field out is a very good decision IMO.
