Cant find Hunter on it though

I don’t want to sound like a dick, but he (JS) should be able to go faster than that…even in the off season.
How about the 50 year old that placed in the top 10 with a 1:14? Damn!

That’s viagra right there! Possibly a side effect from the night before.
A 40something female athlete’s 2:15 bike split in Clearwater created a 7 page cheating accusation but I guess it is pretty normal for a 50 year old male to run 1:14 half???
Unless you spoke to JS or his coach prior to the race re: what he did recently, what the goal/purpose of the race was, what events he is peaking for this year, etc, it’s near impossible to judge if he “should” go faster. The guy is an olympian and you are concerned about others perceiving you as a dick on a message board…
The armchair quarterbacking here is quite entertaining.

Actually, yes. There is an older guy who runs with the Harriers in NYC. He runs the Brooklyn 1/2 every year and is consistently in the 1:14-1:15 range. The first nine miles are flat, but the last four are hilly. I’d reckon on a flat course, he’d easily be under 1:14. The guy is just very steady. Look at the 50+ AG guys like Joe Bonness. Your endurance sticks around. For something like a half, I’m not at all surprised to see a 50+ man running 1:14. He’s probably been running since he was in high school. That sort of mileage just adds up.
x2 on the old guys that can rock a half. got a buddy in austin, keith, a kiwi from south island. 50+ and has run close to 1:10. I think he holds the WR for the age at the distance? That or he’s the 2nd fastest.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry when I see what these *old guys *can run, very humbling, but motivating. Every now & then I’ll pull up some of the USATF age group records & just looked up the current M50-54 records:
The 1/2 marathon mark is 1:09:30 & marathon <2:30.
Another ridiculous mark is the M80-84 1/2 marathon in 1:39! 81yrs old & running 7:30 pace for 13 miles - just awesome!

Knowing Jarrod’s coach he is probably in a building phase

I think Jarrod Shoemaker’s time is quite nice, no matter what time of the year it is. And it is tough to tell how many Disney characters he had to avoid during the run.

Not common, but definitely believable. I think at New Bedford HM last year a 50 year old ran like 1:12, of course the guy I am thinking about has been a dominant figure on the New England roads for over 20 years.
How about Titus Mamabolo’s 50+ matahon record at 2:19:29.
That is impressive.

What really brought me down to earth Saturday was when my wife and I hit the 5 mile point we saw Shoemaker and the top two guys passing us on their way back!
It was an amazing race venue. Disney is amazing and with 39,000 athletes they did an amazing job.
After battling my achilles injury for the past 6 months, I was glad to take it easy and finish the race with no pain and no problems. I was one happy 54 year old!
Yes, I was petrified that I would appear to be a dick to this message board. I can’t sleep from it…douche
I actually agree with you point that w/o knowing the purpose or goal of the event, one cannot determine if it was a good performance or not. That said, I’m SURE he could run faster than that if he wanted or the race was more important. I dig the dude, he’s a stud. I wasn’t exactly ripping on him.
