Time for a new dishwasher is the stainless tub worth it ?
not in my opinion.
you ever seen the dishwasher tub wear out??
Typically a stainless tub is quieter, part because of the stainless, part because of better acoustic treatments. How much of a cost difference are you talking about. How to determine if its worth it without knowing the cost difference. Of course how to do an apples to apples comparison, as typically when you go to stainless its a more up level model with other parts changed also.
We have a stainless tub, about 20 yrs old, I have replaced the circuit board, and the motor pump assembly in those 20yrs , but the tub is still original.
We had a GE dischwasher with a plastic tub … top of the line version. The circuit board malfunctioned and allowed it to heat up too much, melting the plastic tub (and some of what was in the dishwasher). We replaced it with a model that had the stainless tub and have had no issues.
GE is another story. We’ve gone through 4 in 10 years. If we ever replace this last one it will be with a different brand.

Well, what do the Jones’ have? (that’s for the militant penny-pinchers of the LR).
They have a housekeeper.
I’m a fan of the kitchen aid brand, stainless. About $500. Kicks butt. Quiet and the inside stays clean. Not to mention it cleans great.
If you have a Sears outlet by you, look for one there on discount. You can buy a new front panel for $75, but it’s probably marked down $200-$250. I made a deal with Sears to buy the part and install it for free for me if I bought the dishwasher. Dishwasher looked brand new for $400!
Yes it’s worth it! I had a Maytag with plastic tub. The tub cracked at the bottom where the back foot was. Good thing we noticed the leak on the floor as soon as we started the dishwasher. On another note you couldn’t kick me in the crotch hard enough to make me buy a Maytag ever again. Although we did have it replaced, it took a great deal of time and effort to make things happen. I have a Bosh now that I got on discount at Lowes. As for anything else look for discounted appliances to save some $$$. Also I believe that a stainless steel tub keeps the water warmer during the cycle. This is just an opinion though, but the Bosh does clean better than the Maytag. JC
I searched out local appliance stores and found a GE Elite full electronic stainless for 500.00 reg 1200. Look around for last years models, I have not found Sears Outlet to be a great place, perhaps others. Big local appliance dealers worth looking. The mechanical pieces in the low end stuff is absolute garbage, just look at the locking mechanism if they have a few out of the box and not installed in a cabinet.
